My son is buying his first vehicle ahead of turning 16.
94 Toyota truck 4x4, manual drive, 87000 miles. Been in a garage mostly putting about 400 miles on it the last 8-10 years. 1425.00. Saw it sitting in a friends garage and asked if he was selling it. He couldn’t be more excited. Truck is in great condition and maintained.
Dude, I'm not kidding, you could $20k for that truck on the right website. Those things are like having a gold bar in your pocket.

We are looking at a car that costs less than 4 grand if possible
Depending on the state and insurance company...a 4 thousand dollar car costs 4 grand a year to insure the teenage driver.

This is an absolute steal. I’ll give you 5 grand for it right now.

I bought my son a 2003 Ford F150 for $1500. Had to get an axle changed for $700 but I'm still ahead of the game. One of his teachers offered him $3000 for it.

4 cylinder automatic version of these:
Camry
Accord
Passat
Malibu
Civic
Corolla
Cruze
Jetta
Golf
Fusion
RAV4
CRV
Only get the 6 cylinder version of these (3800 V6 in particular) - they are bulletproof, under valued, and not fast enough to kill anyone.
Bonneville
Grand Prix
Regal
Impala
LeSabre
Intrigue
Eighty Eight
V8 version of these (4.6L only):
Grand Marquis
Crown Vic
Town Car
Avoid any Nissan with the CVT. Stay away from the Ford Focus in general or any pre 2013 Mazda sedan with the automatic. Most Mitsubishi’s are a miss. But it’s possible to find good examples in your price range of everything above.
Trucks are a different story. I like the Tacoma in particular. But there are a lot of good examples of almost all models made. They tend to outlast their car counterparts.

Call me dumb..At 16, we put Jr in a cherry 2001 Mustang Cobra w/ a 410 R/E, X pipe and short-throw shifter. He only received one ticket in 3 yrs. He sold it and got most of our $ back.

I will let you know. We are buying it.

Probably the 4 banger. Obviously less powerful than the 6. But a rock solid block

Figure out what you want for it and shoot me an email. Rowrowrowedhisboat@gmail.com. 100% dead serious here.
If I were him, I would keep it though. As long as he doesn't put a shite ton of miles on it, and keeps it mint, that truck will appreciate from here on out.

We live in a small town and will not be used for any long trips at all. He really wants it and thank you for the offer. Mainly school, sports, and friends. Basing of what my daughter has done the last two years in her vehicle probably 1200-1500 miles a year

Thats an excellent start to the driving part of his life. He will start out with equity in his vehicle, which is something less than 1% of people do. Happy for him!

get him a Bronco
You are getting a 95 Bronco for anywhere near $4k that doesn't need a ton of work.

I don't think we should buy 16 year olds new cars but come on man... $4K?
Posted on 4/22/21 at 9:08 am to Pesci_Avocado
Go out and buy the nicest car you can afford.
Then give your son the old one.

Make him buy his own, teach him some responsibility.
