Busted Pipe Checkin Thread

Vacant rent house....went by Friday and instead of running water, I shut off the valve on the supply line outside. Then opened up the faucets inside.
Yesterday, neighbor called to report that water was spewing out of plumbing. The supply line had split open as well as the ball valve.
I could not locate the shutoff as the grass had grown over the cover. (They read meters electronically now).
My plumber was close by and came by to shut off the water. I asked him to fix the break after he slows down later this week.
Next time I will just leave faucets dripping/running.
Live and learn!

I have two vacant properties. I had almost the same exact issue on one, supply broke at the cut off. The other I have a lot of stuff that needed to be winterized. I'm headed there now to see if it's going to be a good day or a bad day.

Just finished pulling on my pipe to bust it.
I'm making a sandwich now.

I went out yesterday with 3 ratty tee shirts and wrapped the 3 outdoor faucets.Wrap it around tight and then tuck over the last bit of the shirt.
It got down to 18 in N.E. AL,so no hard freeze.
Y'all that are experiencing colder conditions.I send warm wishes that way.

Oh crap, I did this as well since I'm not back in my house yet.
Hope my result won't be the same. My pipes were really protected though.

Got up at 6 to check on my office in Baton Rouge- it was all good.
Noticed water all up and down parking lot across the street.
Exposed pipe was split & spewing all over.
