Businesses asking for contact info

I’ve figured out this is my biggest pet peeve. Running errands today and all three places I’ve stopped have asked for my name, address, and phone number. When I tell them I don’t like giving out personal info they look at me like I’m Ebenezer Scrooge.
Why do you need that information? Can we not simply exchange a good/service for currency like we always have? I‘m trying to be less misanthropic but I do not need a fabric store to contact me for any reason. /rant and dear Facebook

Just tell them no. There are businesses that ask for my phone number (Academy does this at checkout every time I go to their store) and I tell them I’m not giving my phone number.

I put down LaToya Cantrell and give out the Mayor's phone number of 504-658-4900

Nope nope nope. Contact tracing is useful BEFORE it’s spread. At this point it’s just an empty gesture to placate Karen and give bureaucrats a way to yield power.

Advertising.
We do the same. If anybody needs a quote they have to give their name, company, phone number and email address.
Definitely annoying, but if you give it once we never ask again and most customers are repeat.

Businesses have to be visible to be viable in the internet age, so this is necessary. I get the inconvenience, but at least they are being upfront about it.

I hate that they hassle you to get a credit card. My credit stays frozen when I don’t need it, so that’s an easy excuse.
Went to banana republic with a friend that was in the United States for the first time from Israel and the guy at the checkout counter kept trying to pitch the credit card to her. He was speaking English too quickly so she looked at me for help and I told the cashier thank you but we don’t need that. He turned back to her and said it more quietly so I wouldn’t step in trying to pitch it again.
Like dude, really? She’s obviously foreign. She ain’t in your system to even apply.

Credit is the biggest bubble of them all, and companies have figured out they can make serious money on it, often more than the product is worth.
