In my labor and employment law practice, I often see management trying to solve individual problems by creating new policies or engaging in group training. I once had a company ask me to draft a policy on bodily hygiene because they had one employee who had terrible B.O. I said "just go talk to him" but of course no one wanted to do so. They ended up hiring me to do it LOL.

The business coach is likely to go over like DEI training - not very well.

From your message, it sounds like they know who the problem individuals are. Individual interventions would seem to be the correct response.

The owners of my company wants me to look into this for them. We have a few people on our leadership team who currently lack the capability (or capacity) to communicate respectfully without shift blaming, deflecting, shutting down, or becoming defensive.

They want to "invest" in his team before any further disciplinary action is required, which I think is commendable.

Ultimately, if any change is going to work, it has to come from within, and while I am skeptical about this approach (because people generally don't like being asked to change), I am on board with it.

Any local recommendations?

Sign up for the Working Genius assessment.

Do it with just the leadership staff to start.

I think this model works across the board for companies. It doesnt look at personality as much as the Squibb Meyers but rather accesses how you work and what your strengths and weaknesses are.

It also provides you with your teams members information so you can all see one anothers strengths and weaknesses. This enables you to interact IMO much more easily with your co-workers as you all understand how one another is driven.

I think “consultant” sounds so much more professional than “business coach” which sounds scammy

The owners have obviously cracked the code of your screen name here and read your work.
