Bullying in schools: were you a bully or bullied?

What are the stories? I'm really curious as to those who look back now and realize they were bullies themselves. Not to chastise anyone but to hear recollections of the other side.....
I was bullied, but I fought back. I look at it now and in the early years I was a huge kid; however, I was always in a fight. I don't see it as bad because I didn't cave in.
Fire away!

I stayed under the radar and thanked God there were easier targets than me.
Followed by the luck of a private high school with down to earth and mature individuals so while there were a few that were ostracized due to their actions, there wasn't any malicious bullying.

Not much either way, but sometimes a little bit of both.

I was invisible. I got along well with the people I socialized with.
That had pluses and minuses.

Yep, fought back, got my arse kicked for years...started winning every fight after 15...
So much so other kids wanted me to show up when they were getting harassed.
I lost probably 7 good fights...learned the jab, then ju jitsu, before ju jitsu was ju jitsu
Learned to soften targets until I got the hook down...learned to feint the hook, then sweep the leg

I thought you were going for the lyrics of that Silento song for a second.

I was not bullied, but i sure as hell wasnt the one doing it either. Only people that caught hell from me were my friends, we was rough on each other, but not less fortunate.

I was bullied and picked on a lot, I was an easy target. Ugly, chubby kid with speech impediment. I always fought. Played football 8 years, still got picked on. I always fought. It bothered me immensely, I guess I wasn't a very likable kid. I'm 40 now with great wife and kids so it all worked out.

I suppose I was bullied - was a smaller guy and caught a lot of crap from a small number of the other kids. Taught me to not be too worried about other peoples' opinions, and when necessary, how to throw a punch. Lessons I'm currently trying to pass on to my son...

Up to 8th grade I was kinda bully bait.
8-9th grade I was middle of the road, I bullied some scrubs but if I crossed the line would get bullied occasionally by some top tier meatheads.
10 grade on, not bullied one time but didn't really bully either.
So I evolved a lot.

I was sort of in the middle. Luckily, I had some powerful friends that I leveraged.
"You know, I can't whoop your arse. I'm a lover not a fighter". But you see my friend...he'll frick you up."

Once I hit 7 grade, it was better until 9th grade when an older big kid ramped it up again. One day in the hall in front of tons of kids at small break, it ended. Who know he was a bleeder in a white hall.....looked far worse than it was. That was the end of bullying.
I was typically buddies with everyone.

Damn how many times did you learn ju jitsu?
ETA: I definitely wasn't a bully. I always hated seeing it too. And I wouldn't say I was bullied, but there were definitely upperclassmen who didn't like me and gave me shite. Wasn't one To back down though.

Neither, got along with everybody. One of the more popular kids in my class. But that's not to say that I'd put up with a bully if I saw somebody bullying another person.

That sucks. Sorry you had to go through that.
My wife went to a big public school in the north east. The stories she tells me about what the girls would do to each other shock me.
Chicks are viscious to each other.

I was bullied. I was probably the skinniest kid in school ( not anymore, sigh). I graduated in 84 so they didn't all this anti bullying stuff as they do today. I got into a lot of fist fights.. lost some/won some, never started any. By the time I was a junior I had gotten pretty good at it and most guys new that I wasn't scared and would swing. Nobody wanted to be known as getting their arse kicked by the skinniest guy in school so that worked in my favor also

Yeah, I think girls are a lot worse on this front!
That said, I definitely never looked for the 'victim' card to play, what I went through was a normal part of growing up - realizing that other people can in fact be assholes, and that's no reflection on me. I personally think too much is made of "bullying" these days.....
