Ours, only. We are both over 50, and do make up contributions.

Good.

Based on the half assed info in the OP, I'd imagine this couple isn't eligible for catch-ups. 10-20 years left of student debt seems like someone under 50.

If accurate, then it is because your employer is putting in ~$12K for you. 401K contributions are a maximum of $19K per working individual for 2019.

or, as he said, he's old. not sure why a 50+ year old is comparing himself to somebody with daycare aged kids

Yes we do, Einstein.

We are both over 50, and are able to do make up contributions.

Stupid moron.

Nah, catch up contribution takes it to $25k of pre-tax elective deferral in a 401k.

And with two kids those snacks last how long?

Math just isn't adding up here. Let's take an average month of 30 days.

4 people x 3 meals per day x 30 days = 360 meals

Subtract 1 meal for your once a month night out and say it's super cheap at $50 total.

You're at 359 meals at a cost of $950. That's roughly $2.65/meal for an entire month. How malnourished are yall?
You really do like to argue.

Not everyone makes three full meals a day. Most school days the kids will fry an egg with toast and jam and a banana for breakfast(and being teenagers, half the time I can't even get them to eat breakfast). My wife and I might have an english muffin and a piece of fruit. That's breakfast for the week at around $25. On the weekend we might add bacon and hash browns. Add another $10 a week. That's 112 meals for $140. The kids take lunch to school. One week takes a loaf of bread, cold cuts, a bag of fruit and a few snacks. None of those items are very expensive but I'll overshoot and say $40 a week. My wife and I usually take leftovers or a sandwich. That's another 80 meals accounted for.

So 192 of those 360 meals are accounted for with $300 and leftovers. Dinner/weekend lunch-$180 for the previously mentioned butcher box covers meat for the month, so now we're at $460 and the only thing we still need to buy are fruits/vegetables/condiments, etc... We also do things like cooking a big batch of spaghetti or chili and freezing several for extra meals.

I have a family of four in Seattle on a 100k income. I've learned how to shop.

see above clown. your post makes even less sense now. it's pretty fricking irrelevant for a 50+ year old man to compare his 401k contributions and salary with a presumably 30 something family of 4. gtfo with this gotcha bs

This thread is awesome. There are about 5 people that know what they are talking about. Several that spew what ever pops into their head. A guy that will argue with a stop sign. And an old guy telling people to frick off. I love the OT.

You lazy frickers with all that student loan debt is comical as hell.

We worked 2 jobs each to graduate debt free.

I’ll see y’all at the boat launch in a couple of weeks, picking up trash, while we frick off.....

nah, i'm straight. don't even wax my own boat

eta i don't think a man in his 50s, grossing a collective 250k with his wife, qualifies as rich. glad you're enjoying your last few years of life though.
