Why didn't he just get in his car?

Anytime he stepped back, the dogs would take an aggressive advance towards him

Standing his ground seemed like the only thing that was stopping the dogs from coming after him

Now, had this been a domestic where the issue is pressing and I need to get to the victim without delay then that changes things.

Had the dogs immediately charged when exiting his car then I can understand it. I wont say if I think he was right or wrong because I don't know their policy or all the details surrounding the situation and their normal MO for it. This is my assessment on what I saw

Glad to see someone from LEO side agrees. I'm not here to say he should be reprimanded and all. But Your assessment is exactly how I saw it from the IT nerd perspective. .

You want to go watch again and see if you can see the TWO distinct times the dogs retreated plenty enough to give the officer ample time to safely get in his car?

This 5 day suspension will cost the cop over $10,000 during his career. It will put him behind his whole academy for promotion and he has a excessive force with a firearm on his record. He is now a civil liability.

I have no problem with what he did. He seemed to be calm and under control during the situation.

I would have shot both them mofo's with the quickness.

This is actually true. He has no room for error in the future. His IA jacket is admissible.

dogs didn't seem aggressive to me. they were wagging their tails. a dog set to attack isn't gonna wag its tail

Officer steps back at 2:30 and the dog takes two large steps towards him

Then at 2:40, officer takes a small step back and the dog advances again at him which is when the officer fired his weapon

Why are we even questioning the cops??? We should be questioning the owners who dont have these dogs locked up or penned in.

its two aggressive pit bulls in the ghetto. No question i would have probably done the same thing.

I have had to pickup litter in the neighbor by Southern's campus. The amount of pit bulls in those hoods that were going nuts as we walked by was unsettling. Thank god the chain link fences and leashes kept them locked in.

Those dogs were not going to attack, they were wagging their tails. Bad shooting.

Is this common knowledge?

My Ridgeback would have done at least as much as those dogs did. He's not a mean dog, but a stranger on his property is a natural threat. Add the fact that he tased him already, and he a major threat now.

Not piling on the cop, even though I think he could have avoided this. Just saying those dogs were doing their job. They don't know cops from bad guys.

Yes, if the cop would have stomped his feet and yelled the dogs would have backed off. If not, then defend yourself.

Tear gas or pepper spray would have stopped the dog cold, no need to kill the animal. Cop screwed up.
