Get ready for the Gary Chambers of the world to claim that BRPD officer gets more punishment for killing a dog than a black man.

Hopefully the dog's autopsy shows that he shot himself in the leg before the cop shot him too.

Yeah, just keep crucifying police officers for things you have no clue about. You sound so informed.

I'm retired law enforcement so don't preach to me. This is wrong and apparently the other cops, with the exception of the black union, agree that it's wrong. If this was a white cop what would the media be saying? There's your double standard.

All these "he didn't have to shoot it,just get in your car and wait for animal control" people are just being oversensitive pussies.
A cop does not need to cower in fear in his car. He's sworn to serve and protect the public.

Could this be proven in court?

Laughing at Gary Chambers and his ilk. Also laughing at people who want to discipline a cop for shooting an obviously aggressive dog.

IMO, the cop did just about everything right except keeping the "Aww F* it" internalized.

Except get back in his car

Well, that's what the criteria is for shooting people...you have to feel your life is in danger.

Perp is locked in car. Show is over. And there were several opportunities for the cop to remove himself from the situation.

Many times, and rightfully so, these things are fought to keep a cop from abusing his power later, and using this as a precedent to shoot someone else.

How do you feel about this? If you're in his shoes, is the dog an immediate threat?

Did you retire in the early 1800s? I ask because you seemed to imply that the idiot getting on his radio was out of line for saying "shots fired." While he could've done it better, he was still technically correct. Even though he was wrong on the shoot.

What do I know though...

This is announced over the radio anytime a shot is fired by anyone for any reason in policing. If you're retired law enforcement then you surely already know this.

So the cop should get back in his car due to fear of two unrestrained, aggressive pitbulls and leave them free to attack any pedestrians or children in the neighborhood? The bigger question is why are two aggressive animals not confined to a fenced in area?

Inclined to side with officer on this one.

Im under the assumption he responded to a report of a burglary. Not one in progress but to take the report of one. That makes me think there isn't an existing emergency that wouldn't allow him to get in his patrol car and ask for dispatch to contact animal control and the homeowner. Ive been in this situation and always contacted the complainant / homeowner to let them know im outside but not getting out of my car until the dogs are restrained. Now, had this been a domestic where the issue is pressing and I need to get to the victim without delay then that changes things.

Had the dogs immediately charged when exiting his car then I can understand it. I wont say if I think he was right or wrong because I don't know their policy or all the details surrounding the situation and their normal MO for it. This is my assessment on what I saw

bullshite, he used the tazer to get the dog to come to him so he could shoot it in it's own yard. It never left it's own yard.
