BATON ROUGE - Police have identified the officer who exchanged gunfire with a suspect during a traffic stop Tuesday night.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shootout occurred after Officer Yuseff Hamadeh attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with two people inside near North 15th Street and Chestnut Street around 6:30 in the evening.

Police say the driver fled, eventually abandoning the vehicle and taking off on-foot. As Hamadeh chased him, the suspect reportedly fired a gun at the officer. Hamadeh then returned fire, according to BRPD. No injuries were reported.

Police detained one person in connection with the encounter Tuesday night, but they do not believe that person is the shooter. As of Wednesday morning, authorities say they are still searching for the suspect.

Hamadeh was cleared in another shooting that stemmed from a traffic stop in June 2017, which resulted in the death of Jordan Frazier. Police say Hamadeh shot Frazier after he stepped out of his car with a gun in his hand. Investigators later determined that gun was stolen.

I think it's time for him to count his blessings and retire from policing. Talk about some horrible luck. Poor guy.

I dont think baton rouge is a place where you find those officers with the "i never had to pull my gun out on the job" careers.

He works in a horriable area not uncommon.
Time to go to traffic division in a good area.
Oh, wait there is none in BR.

I feel sorry for him, but glad he could defend himself and shoot back.

That has to be the worst headline phrasing I have ever seen.

He's already made little comment on seeing the body cam. He is more concerned because the "racist" white MC members didn't vote for the black man as BR Aviation Director.

Soooo basically you were spot on.

Depends where you are stationed.

If you are in mid city dealing with yuppies speeding to Whole Foods, your experience is different from someone patrolling NBR.

I knew this would be an issue as soon as they announced that the final 2 candidates were a black man and a white guy. It doesn't matter if Austin Futch's qualifications were head and shoulders above the other dude, if the black guy didn't get picked, it was because of "racism."

I'm not going to blast a cop for shooting at someone that is actively firing on them.

According to gravy, the black man was CLEARLY more qualified (I have no idea because I don't even know the names of the final 2 candidates). Apparently the white MC voters wanted to look for other candidates.

This honestly isn't the case in a city like BR. Officers in the area you're talking about probably also have all the areas around St. Vincent De Paul, the bus stations, the Spain/America Street areas and all the stuff connected around 12th/14th Street, Thomas H. Delpit, etc.

I don't think you could logically outline a patrol area in the city that doesn't include rough areas.

Correct. For example, 2nd District covers LSU, The Bottoms, Stanford, Mid-City, Garden District, Capital Heights, Pollard, and that shitty area along Siegen that was just annexed. You really can't hide in BR unless you're assigned to some bullshite like community policing.

I've pretty sure a heart attack is imminent for Gravy. I don't think he's ever been as fat.

Remember when his fat arse tried to lose weight and would post pictures of himself on the exercise bike?
