After an alarming stretch of deadly gunfire in Baton Rouge, the interim city police chief is pulling officers off regular patrols to swoop in on shootings.

The new temporary unit will patrol high-crime areas and allow police to respond more quickly — and in force — to any reports of gunfire or other violent crimes, said Sgt. L'Jean McKneely, a BRPD spokesman.

"If something goes out, we'll have a group of guys who can pounce on it as quick as possible," McKneely said. "When we can flood the area after a drive-by or a shooting, it increases the chances of catching those responsible."

The 10-officer unit, made up of two cops pulled from each of the department's four districts along with two sergeants, will begin work Friday afternoon, McKneely said.

This city is certainly on the rise. Nothing says success like a mayor too retarded to hide her corruption and a police force having to designate a specific unit to handle the ghetto trash shooting at each other.

For those complaining about police wait times, they're about to get longer, because pulling two guys from each district is a huge manpower commitment when they're already 50 officers short and most districts are already strained. You can thank North Baton Rouge for that.

Why can't any available officer respond to a report of a shooting?

Our usual suspects will almost certainly have a problem with this "obviously racist" tactic.

Because they're too tied up handling all of the other crimes NBR is committing across the city. If they don't have more than a couple officers available, it's hard to flood an area and catch a shooter.

It looks like the sergeant in charge of the team is black. I'm sure he's considered a traitor to his race, though.

So they are going to devote more officers to shootings?

I was just thinking that the easiest and fastest way to respond to a crime is to have the nearest officers go to the scene immediately.

You're correct about the sweating, but Gravy made sure everyone knew during the Delgado debate that he didn't own a gun.

Oooooooo Fat Gary is gonna be so triggered with how this patrol is only in north BR and will target only black males.

I mean, it doesn't matter that black males are the ones shooting each other in north BR, it's the fact that police are targeting black areas. That's the racist part.

The way I understand it is that the nearest officers will respond initially, but these new guys spend all night just chilling and doing proactive police work until a shots fired call comes in, then they all flood the area and allow most of the regular patrol guys to go back on the road.

Less cops doing inspection sticker checkpoints and stupid stuff like that is a good thing. Its nice to see them actually focus on crime for a change.

That's where the bulk of the shootings are.

Oh, for sure.

I'm sure "systemic racism" and "police were invented to catch runaway slaves" will also be included in the feigned outrage over black people trying to stop black people from killing other black people.

Yeah, that doesn't sound smart given that, statistically speaking, he's the most in need of one.

My guess os these guys will be armed/equipped a little differently than a normal patrol deputy.

They should add a K9 unit to that squad.
