I don't think anyone is against body cams. I think the problem here is the inherent implication by the Mayor-President that had there been a body camera on the officer at the time, it would have shown him doing something wrong, i.e. killing the man unnecessarily because he was black.

Not being a smartass, I just simply have no clue about it. I just assumed they would be issued to the ones who go out in the field or have potential to. Although, knowing her, it really wouldn't surprise me if even the people sitting at the desk who will never go on a call or anything like that, still have one issued to them.

I'm just curious though bc I haven't really followed anything about the cameras and, as you said, see a lot of waste if truly every officer gets one, like she says. Sadly, I think she's dumb enough to actually issue one to literally every officer.

There are less than 400 officers assigned to the 5 precincts on the department, which includes sergeants, lieutenants, and captains. Lieutenants and captains are basically administration that mostly sit inside the precinct the entire shift doing paperwork and only respond to scenes well after an incident is over. So a good round number of officers that respond to scenes in uniform patrol, (the true backbone of the department and overwhelmingly are the one that first come into contact with the public on a day to day basis) is probably 300. They council bought 650.
