I had that alarm clock at LSU as well ('86 - '91). For some reason, it always ran fast and gained a couple minutes every day in the South Stadium and Pentagon dorms. I always wondered if the electricity on campus ran a tad higher than 60 hz. That's the only thing I can think of that would account for the fast clocks.
Edit for clarification: It ran perfectly fine at home and everywhere else it went with me. It only ran fast on campus. Had to be something with the power to the dorms at LSU during those years.
