Yeah. Reception at English Turn a view years ago. Young kid was very gracious and the wedding was great.
Nice. I wonder if he checked with the host and/or was asked to wear it.

I have a feeling most here haven’t been to an actual black tie event (nor have I) and are basing their opinions on the average south Louisiana wedding. It wouldn’t be weird at 90% of weddings I’ve been to either, but if this chick really had a $400k reception like someone quoted and she specified a certain dress code, I’d say most here aren’t qualified to decide whether his attire was appropriat
No. That 400k was to a forum I linked that had the same discussion.

i think that was just a quote from someone in that other thread referring to their own wedding.
my point was that she says she didn't have a problem with military yet specifically targets the guy in the military uniform.

Don’t think I ever said thank you. I’ll be sure to check back in on Veterans day and say thanks.

Why is everyone missing that it wasn’t a black tie event, but optional? There’s a difference. Had she said black tie only, it would have been much more understandable, but because she left it optional, him wearing his dress blues is quite in line with that dress code.

You know a lot of Medal of Honor recipients?
I have researched them since it's my field of study. I have interviewed quite a few guys who had seen a decent amount of combat in Vietnam. My best friend didn't find out his father won a silver star in Vietnam til he interviewed him in high school for class about it. In general the guys who have seen some shite don't like to talk about it.
I'm not saying everyone but I would say the vast majority.

Dress codes aren't really up for debate. Black tie optional is specific. Even if you've never been to one, the attire is straightforward. Traditional tux preferably, with some wiggle room on coat color, or a dark suit.
BTO is designed to be a pretty muted affair. Nothing about dress blues is muted, although it's a worthy substitute in a military capacity.

No, dress blues are actually a step up in civilian dress code. They're the equivalent of a tuxedo.
However, I contend you never see them worn in that capacity because it's not a practical substitute.

Right, and I only read the first page, but it seemed pretty much unanimous that dress blues were appropriate for a $400k black tie reception.

rather that than being slovenly casual, more and more I see people showing up at weddings or funerals looking like they've either just finished changing the oil in their F-250 or getting ready to go fishing

imagine the uproar if this was about a woman with a low cut dress and a wonder bra stealing attention from the bride.

You have to wear medals and/or ribbons on any dress uniform. Those arent optional.
