I've come to realize the other guy got screwed on the trial and investigation, but killed the girl.
They just wanted to make sure they got him.

what was it that convinced you?

The bullet
The phonecalls
The past history with the girl and Avery
It isn't like these scream at him being a murderer, but it is hard to explain off.
I think the cops fricked up a open/shut case by fricking with things too much.

wasn't the garage where it was found completely devoid of blood? I seem to recall them making a big deal about if she had been shot in that garage there would have been "misting" and small droplets of blood covering literally everything. Seems obvious that it was planted there.

I agree with this.
The Netflix series left out a bunch of stuff that makes him look really guilty. Like requesting her specifically, blocking his number when calling her, etc.
His girlfriend (now ex) claims he did it now too.
Brendan was a mentally challenged, juvenile pawn in the game to convict his uncle. That kid should not be in adult prison, regardless of it he helped or not.

Should have never been convicted.

My guess is she was killed where some of the bones were found, further away from the house, they moved the bones to other parts of the property and planted other evidence and used unethical interrogation practices to just make sure they got him.
I think they also told this to the prosecutor and judge(s).
