BREC, an idea for all the money they are stealing from us

An indoor, state of the art Shooting Range, yes. Indoor so it can be located anywhere, open 365 days, and wont bother the Nimby's.
There are no good ones in the area, and they would print money.
They spend 10 mill on a bike park that is never open, 20 mill on a water park thats open 4 months of the year and rarely used.
Multi millions on golf courses that are all loosers.
I know many more shooters/gun owners than I know bikers, swimmers, golfers and runners.
It would also be a great educational tool for kids, groups.
Come at me..........

We have a few in Houston and they are pretty nice. Only shitty thing is that one of em is in the barrio and another one has their parking lots looted on a regular basis.
Not sure if those pussies in BR city hall would approve this either

NBR has an open gun range 24/7, particularly at night. All for free too

City ordinances, state laws, and a ton of other legal reasons do not allow guns in public parks. You cannot have a public park that is specifically for guns. A good idea in theory but completely unrealistic, especially in BR. Even in this age of public private partnerships, no one is going to touch that with a 100 foot pole.
It took literally like 75 years for them to allow alcohol in a few facilities.
If you’re talking about the Bike park on Perkins, I doubt that whole park was 10mil. The velodrome was built decades ago and the dirt track has scheduled races on saturdays. They close it when it’s wet.
You’re right about golf courses, they could probably close a few, & they have repurposed some in recent years. However it’s a parks department so the golf program is always going to bleed money. Not every golf player can afford to go to private country clubs.
Water park is open during the same times of year as every other water park in the country pretty much. It operates in the black, and reaches maximum capacity pretty much regularly in the summer. Max capacity is like 600 or something.
Baton Rouge has a huge biking population, if you don’t believe me check out the Comite or Hooper trails on a Saturday morning when BRAMBA rides. Running population is huge (LSU lakes?? Varsity, Happys?)
Gun education would be very valuable programming for youth, but it’s best left to Wilflide and Fisheries rather than BREC. (Waddil?) or what about LA State Parks?
I used to be pissed off at all the property taxes I paid to BREC. Then i did a google search, made a couple phone calls, and started driving around EBR and realized they’re pretty awesome. They’re nationally ranked every year. Worst thing about BREC is the marketing department. Not many know about all the stuff.

Did Jonathan Swift post this?
This sounds like something that would be brought up at a town hall meeting on Park and Recs.

BREC is one of the reasons Baton Rouge is considered a great tennis city. They do a fantastic job ensuring access to courts and keeping up their facilities.

You can drive by any of the BREC golf courses that are still open, and at any time of the day, find golfers from 1st hole all the way to the 18th hole. I don't know what else you determine makes a golf course a loser, but that was an ignorant remark to make. Hell, even City Park gets golfers at all times of the day and that 9 hole course is old and seems to be on its final run.
