Did you just link a TD post as a rebuttal?
And the post doesn't even say he was driving.

Yes? That's the only thing I read with limited info.
The story is available outside of Tigerdroppings. Personally, I prefer actually learning about an incident before assigning blame.

Okay so the driver was an idiot?
Agreed.

What's your argument exactly? Victim or otherwise that not listening to the cops is smart?
Sounds like firing indiscriminately into a carload of kids driving away from you isn't smart. The officer is the one facing a jury of 12. Not the kids.
quote:
Sounds like it can get you or your friends killed.
Yes, obviously. A mentally ill police officer can have a negative effect on your health. No argument there.

Also retarded. So remember next time you get pulled over, don't startle the retarded cops.
They weren't pulled over. What are you talking about?

Since you have admitted that you are ignorant of the facts I'll give you a couple. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle leaving a party. The cop claimed that they tried to reverse over him and he feared for his life. A 3rd officers camera showed that the car was driving away from him when he opened fire.

So they were just minding their own business and didn't see him in the rear view mirror? The cop didn't ask them to stop or try to communicate?
I'm guessing not since his department fired and charged him with a quickness. Do you have info they don't have?
And on a related point, do you believe someone who is "set off by fireworks, loud noises, or gunfire", as claimed by his own parents, should be a police officer?

The officer should be institutionalized or imprisoned.
You say this but you seem to be arguing that he acted properly. Which is it?
I think we all agree that you should follow any instructions given by law enforcement. Some of us don't believe that the penalty for simple disobedience should be death. Especially when you pose no threat to the officer.

Part of the complaint stated employees of the DA were scared of him.
Sounds like he was unhinged, but allowed to continue his employment as a street cop.
Well sure that makes sense. You'd suspend or fire a line cook at a Mickey D's whose coworkers were terrified of him, but a job where you carry a gun....

Great. Whether it was murder or not, this shite has to stop. The legislature makes laws, they don't enforce them.
We should try and remember er that when the DA association or the Sherriffs's lobby tells the legislature what they will and won't approve.

Fify
I can think of more than one time I would simply say no and it's very legal to do so.

He was finally indicted today July 17.

DALLAS -- The fired Balch Springs, Texas, cop who shot and killed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards was indicted Monday on a murder charge by a Dallas County grand jury. Roy Oliver fired his rifle April 29 into a car of teenagers leaving a party. Police Chief Jonathan Haber originally said the black Chevrolet Impala was aggressively backing up toward Oliver and Officer Tyler Gross. Then, he corrected the information and said the car was driving away at the time Oliver fired. Edwards, who sat in the front passenger seat, was struck in the head.

He sounds like a nut case.

Are there any LEO's or attorneys from Texas who could chime in on this? Is the cop being charged with a crime that requires and intent to kill for a conviction. Maybe the shooter did intend to kill, but is there a possibility that the DA has overcharged here like has happened in so many other cop related shooting arrests and prosecutions?
It seems like negligence is a more certain conviction.
