We need a whole new agency, just like TSA was created after 9/11.
It deals with infections and plagues. It needs 30,000 people, a cabinet-level position, an armed unit, a big office building, and $500 million to start.
It will be called CRAP. "Central Repository for Aleviating the Plague."
There will be a new law passed. It will be called "The Americans First Act" giving police and CRAP agents to stick a rental thermometer up your arse without a warrant anytime, anywhere.
It will be great!

Ok they have removed this info from the Amarillo article "We have confirmed that the Amarillo patient did travel on the same Frontiers Airline flight as Dallas, Texas nurse Amber Vinson. It was revealed earlier today that Vinson has tested positive for Ebola after caring for Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas."
And added this "UPDATED AT 6:52 CST: The ER at BSA Hospital is no longer locked down. Officials have confirmed the individual the patient came in contact with has not traveled to one of the Ebola affected countries in West Africa during the past 21 days."
So I guess the confirmation wasn't really a confirmation? Smh

Aren't most of those "awards" and certifications for hospitals pay to play?
This hospital was terrible, but no different than any other randomly selected medical center of similar size.
It's actually great hospital, George W. Bush had heart surgery at that same facility.
Too think it wouldn't be a cluterfrick any where else is deluding yourself. It was the first US case of this virus, there will be issue no matter the locale.

Thinking about my hospital in south Florida handling a case like this makes me cringe so much.

If I were president or governor, I'd get started setting up a treatment center for Ebola in Dallas somewhere. You know the patients are probably coming. Someplace climate controlled, secure, and large....with adequate PPE and trained professionals.
Texas Presbyterian isn't going to cut it. In fact, I think they are partially responsible for what will probably spread.

Or maybe a fleet of some big 18 wheeler trailers with isolation units. They need to be able to be dispatched with special teams for areas of outbreaks.
Even where equipped, these hospitals can only handle 1 or 2 at a time.

There are a total of 19 beds in this country at the 4 hospitals that have actually prepared and practice the biocontainment requirements to treat ebola.
They were not needed...but now it looks like it is certainly possible we'll see more than that. We should not be taking new patients from west Africa until we can address the potential capacity issue here.
The skepticism that a normal hospital can handle this is justified after Texas Presbyterian screwed this up so badly.
I don't think it hurts to get prepared for 15-20 patients or more simultaneously.

I don't know if it has been stated, but this morning on Fox news they interviewed a doctor from Our Lady. Of the Lake. He was saying OLOL will be the headquarters for Ebola in LA, and that each state would have a headquarters for it if it began spreading.

Living in Houston and having the medical center we have capacity. I can imagine the cdc could a few facilities online fairly quickly to add to the 4 already.

I was told by someone involved that 1-2 more healthcare pros who are as of now unreported to media outlets are showing signs of the ebola last night. They had direct contact with the now deceased/recently infected nurse. One of them is a doctor.
That's in Dallas though.. not Austin..
Posted this yesterday. One more to come I think
