LSU which has been besieged with faculty losses starting with the Ivor van Heerden firing fiasco and continuing with the budget cuts which have caused hundreds of researchers and other high profile staff to leave is now trying to stop the bleeding by offering pay raises to those employees who the department fears are most likely to bolt for somewhere else.

"LSU will be giving merit pay raises to some faculty and staff this fall in an effort to prevent a “revolving door” at the state’s flagship university.

The pay raises are not being applied across the board. Instead, LSU is giving each of its departments a 3% “merit pay raise pool,” and the department heads will in turn decide how to dole out the pay raises."

LSU is desparately trying to stop the bleeding

LSU should just turn CEBA into a giant strip club.

If you build it. They will come.

Problem solved.

They fired Ivor for doing his job. They should be ashamed and embarrassed.

Seems like a selective pay raise based on the most likely to leave may cause some additional issues and piss off a lot of faculty.

Maybe they wouldn't be broke if they focused on the useful stuff like engineering and business instead of forcing everybody to take 2 years of English and gender studies classes before you can learn something useful

There are some liberal arts classes that are useless. English is not one I would consider useless. My college English classes taught me to think critically which is extremely useful in business.

Absolutely agree. Being able to think and communicate as an educated person is expected to communicate is paramount no matter the profession.

Only solution is to raise the state sales tax by a couple cents, and the gas tax by 25 cents, and raise the individual tax rate by a couple percent, and raise the corporate tax rate by 5%, and raise the sin tax, and institute a tax on inventory, and institute a state property tax.
