Is there anything bigger than Tabasco?
I have traveled around the world and can’t believe some little island in Louisiana has such a worldwide impact.

Is there another brand from a small town?

That's distinctly due to Tabasco getting the military contract. Not really fair.

Same story for Hershey, spam, and several other products.

It’s totally fair, they sold their product to the military any other brand could have done the same.

There was Tabasco Sauce in the cafeteria of a chemical plant in the middle of Pakistan where I did a little work. Nothing to do with the military.

Hershey is probably the answer even before Tabasco but, just like Tabasco, that is largely owed to the US Army. Hershey bars were introduced to the world as part of soldiers rations in WWII. An interesting question would be if the company owners knew what being in the soldiers issued meals would do for their international distribution. Same thing could be asked to the guys at Tabasco.

CSB. I once cooked for Paul McIlhenny at a dinner party. Had no idea who he was until after the meal. I grilled whole redfish I had caught the day before along with asparagus and used Tabasco and Tony’s on them. He enjoyed the meal.

Yes it does. That's exactly how the sauce was distributed internationally for years.

Fair or not is debatable but its indisputable how it ended up popular in so many countries around the world.

No it isn’t debatable. It’s clearly fair. That’s the point of the entire thread.
