I agree that investing in the Lakes would be a great idea. It really needs to be done.
As far as the Goodwood Library, when I first saw it, I though "what a waste of money". But once I visited it and learned about everything that goes on there, I was really impressed.
I took my wife and daughter to Austin (Round Rock and Cedar Park) to visit a friend this past weekend. BR looks like a shithole compared to that place (although I would never want to live there). Why not spend a little extra money on something like the lakes that can be beautiful? (I understand people are tax weary with all the waste that happens, but it's not like that's gonna change)

I don't benefit from the newly created Sandy Creek Community Park in Pride...should I just remove that from my tax bill this December?

We all fund BREC, and theoretically the parish as a whole benefits. If BREC funds are used for the lakes then so be it. However A special tax for another project that benefits the downtown(ish) area should be funded by those in the city of BR. It's not a parish wide attraction, and it's not merely an equitable use of park funds. It's a hugely expensive project that unfairly dedicates funds to a specific part of the city.

Agreed. Plus, the library system has overtaxed us. Even though they have something like a $60M surplus in the bank, they recently voted to increase the tax assessment. I plan to vote against their next tax renewal on this basis alone.

What do you want? free handjobs? BREC has been doing outreach for years trying to find out what citizens want in their parks. I get emails and surveys all the time ever since I signed up for their list before the last their last tax election

Whether they listen to their tax base or not, sitting on 80+million in cash is insane.
