I bet it would take about 1.5-1.75hrs from downtown BR to downtown NOLA

Which is pretty much the time it takes right now.

They would just have to have a commitment to security, especially at night. Put rent-a-cops all over it and video cameras. That wouldn't be that expensive.

I get the security concern but this won't be a subway with stops every two minutes for someone to run off. I would also bet that there won't be many trains after 10pm or late at night.

Downvoted him just for using that word.

Looking at the monorail's map, I see a stop in Ascension Parish, but no stop in Livingston Parish. All my AP baws can take this thing straight to Big Easy Daiquiris on Bourbon. This finally and unequivocally certifies the AP >>>> LP argument.

The point would be just to make whitey feel safe . They would just need very well-lit and secure stations with police presence and rent-a-cops on the trains.

Can't have it turn into a CATS thing where its nasty either. Would need to have a commitment to cleaning it routinely.

There wont be an Amtrak agent checking tickets before you get on. Controlled access to the platform then random checks while the train rolls.

Cuts way down on the stop times.

For all you baws that think you’re gonna hop a fast train to the French quarter, drink all night, then hop a fast train back in the wee hours, you’re gonna be deflated when you realize this thing is gonna run like twice a day.

This service will likely take 2.5-3 hours to travel from BR/Nola. I'd rather drive

Is that what they are estimating? Because the times were 90 minutes.

Yeah, I'm not sure where some are getting 2-3 hours as their estimated ride time. This is high speed...200+ mph. The stops will not be long term stops. It's get your arse on or be left stops. I'd say 3-5 minutes at the most at a stop...probably 1-3 minutes. Also, how many trains will be operating....five to six? One every 30 minutes at peak times?

Unless they add an express from BR to NOLA (and vice versa) it’s not viable with that many stops. Only way it works is if they make it faster to get from A to Z than it would if you were to drive. If it takes the same amount of time it’s better to drive because of the flexibility with having your own vehicle.

This sounds like a money pit to me.

I would ride it to airport.

If metal detectors were used for boarding.

Get there around 8 PM, leave around 8 AM. Perfect

But I bet this runs at least 5 times a day if it ever happens. And will have special runnings after Saints/LSU games.

Yeah, it's not an Uber Train. Any word on hours of operation?

I'd guess 6am-10pm? Maybe 6 trips each way/day.

At first. Build ridership I imagine would be step 1. Then develop more services.

That's ridiculous. Its about not having to worry about a vehicle at all and it being cheaper than gas.

And it would take probably 1.5 hours.

I've taken the light rail in Houston, plenty of time for a Texans game. That 30 minute ride is unbearable, granted it packed like a cattle car. But I could see the same happening for your idea.
