I’ve got to be in Lake Charles tomorrow no later than noon and preferably 11:00. I’m leaving from Covington. I know I’ll hit some traffic but, I’m trying to avoid as much as possible. I don’t make this drive too often. When would you guys leave to avoid the heavy traffic? And no I’m not leaving at 3:50.

Doing that on the way home. Ice Chest is already in the truck.

If you are driving through Baton Rouge by 7:00 am, you will be fine.

If it’s 7:20 you will hit traffic.

That’s what I’m worried about. If I put my kid on the bus I’ll probably get to Denham where the traffic starts around 8:00-8:15. If I get my wife to put her on the bus I can leave as early as I want. I’m either trying to miss the heavy traffic either early or later but, I’d like to miss heavy Lafayette traffic(not sure how Laffy morning traffic is)

Lafayette is not bad but if you aren’t using the Waze app for your drive, you deserve all the traffic you find.

Do not wait and put your kid on the bus. Save yourself the stress of sitting in traffic and just leave a little early.

That’s probably what I’m going to do. Probably leave around 5:30-6:00. I’ll be using Waze but, I’m probably going to still hit BR traffic. I have to go to downtown about once a month and I usually run into traffic from Denham all the way to downtown.

Leaving Covington at 6 would suck trying to get through Baton Rouge

Pro Tip: You can enter directions in Google Maps and then set a departure time to get typical drive times.

Thanks for posting this. I started playing with Waze and there is a way to plan your trip and it tells you when to leave if you put in what time you want to be at your destination.
