BR Interstate Daily Crash Thread

I-12 Westbound between O'Neal and Millerville. Yes, this thread is Germans, only question is if it involves an 18 wheeler or not.
Given that there seems to be at least one major fubar a day on our Interstate system, and the series of public meetings that just took place, what IS the problem? This stretch has a significant number of problems, yet it's recently been expanded, road is in good shape (especially by our low standards), is a pretty straight stretch....so what causes all these screwups?

Between oneal and denham its road construction. Lane shifts, etc
After the bridge coming into br it's merging
Inside those two places, I have no idea. Baton Rouge morons?

I think it's mostly IQ related. I travel pretty often, and always watch the morning news on local stations, and BR seems to have more road disabling accidents at morning rush hour than the times I've been in much larger cities. Assuming those areas have a similar number of bad drivers, distracted drivers, etc, it has to be morons

All lanes cleared. Moved to side of interstate. Still backed up past Juban. I better leave shortly.

It's definitely morons. When I got onto the Interstate at Bluebonnet this morning, there were three pickups that came flying by weaving in and out of 3 lanes of traffic. Cars were hitting their brakes and swerving to get out of their way. It was as if they were racing in morning Interstate traffic.

There is no construction anymore between ONeal and Denham. What they should've done is extend the merge lane from Range down past the first overpass of the Amite River Bridge.
I'd also move the merge lane from ONeal down about 100 feet to get it away from the overpass.
I'd also restrict 18 wheeler traffic to the right two lanes within the city limits.
