I don't know. My kids are normal kids and if they came home and said their teacher got frustrated at them because lets say, a math problem and instead of handling the situation like an ADULT professional teacher, decided to cuss at my 12 year old child then insult me on top of it. Then belittle my kid and tell them they won't make it in their next step in life, we might have a problem.

Autism comes in all shapes and sizes, they have some that might have few problems and can walk and talk, some can walk and not talk, some can't do either.

That boy was in that room while they were talking, they were talking straight to him. Didn't you hear him mumble and shreek, and shrill? Matter of fact they are in a room with multiple kids, you can hear they were scared by the teachers loudness. They boy is non verbal, that's why you hear mumbling noises. Some people obviously don't know autism.

I agree. I don't think it's nothing. But, I think it was handled poorly on the mother's part. I would have been waiting for the principal at the door the next morning. The focus should have been on getting the child away from those teachers instead of getting an attorney. Frustrated or not, that's unprofessional as hell. God knows I couldn't teach special needs kids all day long. I probably wouldn't make it one day. But, if its come to the point where you are taking out your frustration by belittling a kid (any kid, not just special needas), it's time to move on. I think I'd only contact the news or an attorney if the school refused to fix the situation.

100% They are avenues that you take, lawyer and news should be last resort. This could end a school that many kids need because they can not make it in traditional school. Let hope that don't happen on account by two loonies.

She won't think so when she's in court being sued (and losing) by the teacher and teacher's aide.

Well, this thread easily separates the parents from the non parents.

#1 Job as a parent is to protect your child.
Recording them without their knowledge? frick'EM I say.

They are the adult. Deal with it.

As noted further down in the news story, the mother ran straight to "social media" before even notifying the school. I translate that as FACEBOOK which makes me lose all respect for and belief that the mother did this for the child. This is yet another mother seeking attention and sympathy because she has a special needs child. If this was about the kid, the mother would have been at the school and not on TV.

This teacher broke one of the cardinal rules in teaching. You do not call out or repremand a student in front of other students, let alone mock their desire to be included with their classmates. You can here the other students in he class oooh and ahhhhhh in the background. Her classroom management and how she engages with her students is totally off base!

While there are probably legal implications in the future for both sides, I am happy the teacher is removed. Her actions are cause anger and concern. Teachers should build up and never tear down their students.

you're absolutely right, I don't know autism. I know (of) exactly one kid with autism. Hes huge and strong and unruly. His parents got pissed at his school for the way they treated him when he started having a fit. I understand their feelings. I also understand the school's concerns trying to handle this kid.

in short, I'd like to hear the teachers/school's side of this story before I get my torch and pitchfork and join Nakamoto or the outraged posters here on this one.

we'll agree to disagree. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart at my high school and nuns at my elementary school had no trouble embarrassing the shite out of you. It worked wonders at ensuring you didn't do the same stupid thing twice.

tear down tactics seem to work well in sports and other endeavors too. So I think it can be done without permanent psychological damage to the recipient.

but these kids are special needs...that probably won't work for the most part.

Nakamoto should be a national reporter.

That dude fricks up peoples worlds

He did nothing except report on this. The mom set up the recording, blasted on social media and he picked up the story and went to the school with it.

Nakamoto has made fame from speaking half truths or stirring up controversy over one side of the story without validating claims. I know of several times he ran with one persons side of the story, created some buzz over it, then once proven wrong he just drops it and moves on to something else. Never being held accountable for lies he spread

Legally she may be in the wrong. You think a DA would charge her though?

I doubt they would want the bad publicity of charging a sped mom who was trying to protect their kid.

Can you give some examples?

I'm not sure, there was a woman who got charged with a felony a few months ago over putting a recorder in the students book sack. I think it was because the student said the teachers were bullying her and the school wouldn't do anything about it.

But if I were the teachers, in this case, I think I would just leave it alone. You got caught acting an arse, it's bad enough everyone knows about it and heard the recording. Bow out as peacefully as you can.
