BR contractor rec needed

Need recs for a general contractor to do some work on my house. Experience with older craftsman style homes would be preferred but not necessary.

Replacing subflooring, taking out a wall or two, replacing a few eaves, replacing a few windows and adding some insulation. painting that will require some scaffolding and replacing some of the insulation beneath the house

Who the hell gives a contractor money up front these days? Sorry to any contractors reading this but, as a group, these guys are the least professional and responsible business people ever. My personal favorite is the multiple times I have had contractors fail to show up to bid a job and then call to ask if they can reschedule. If you can't make the first meeting, and don't bother to call, how can I possible expect you to manage a construction project?

In these type of threads, someone always mentions "make sure they are bonded".
Saying this proves you know very little about residential contracting. A job like the OP describes is not a type of job that is ever bonded. I would say that 99.9 per cent of residential job are not bonded.
It's very important that your contractor is insured for workman's comp and general liability, but that is not the same as being bonded.

^this. Also get lien waivers from all tiers and buy material yourself or do a joint check for materials if possible.

Two posts down. Buy the materials yourself or cut check to supply company. Handing the cash to a contractor upfront is like giving the car keys to a drunk teenager. Nothing good is going to happen.
BTW, your example is terrible. A legit contractor should be able to front for materials on a $40k job. That isn't a very big job.
