Box store “seasons” don’t completely line up with actual seasons

Specifically speaking about lawn and patio furniture. They are already clearing it out of the Home Depot and Lowe’s stores.

This same thing happened last year when in December it got really cold and I went looking for my kids some warm camo clothes. Bass pro had already taken it out of the store to bring in spring time stuff. Same goes for how Walmart pulls all lawn and garden stuff around September when down in the south we have to cut grass year round. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

These are some very solid first world problems

They want to be sold out before the season ends.

Yep. They all move out coats by the time it actually gets cold in the south.

Who cares? All you should be focused on is the word "clearance" while those items are still in season.

Gotta make room for Christmas stuff, which is usually out by the end of September/beginning of October.

That how retail works, most shoppers are done buying for summer so sales on those items go down sharply. So they start sticking for the next season and people start getting their fall items early.

Rinse and repeat.

Also helps that Christmas is the most profitable time so the sooner they can get those items in the sooner people will start buying them

If they stocked a full line of patio equipment through August, they would be sitting on millions of dollars of inventory until next year. Once your weeks OH hits 10+ in just about every sector of retail, your margin is fricked.

Yep. All that outdoor furniture stuff starts going on discount around Independence Day.

What has two thumbs and is picking up a new bistro set for the front patio in the next few weeks?

I ran into this at Costco where I was told the frozen biscuits were seasonal. Biscuits.

I have yet to determine just when biscuits are back in season but I’ll report back when I find out.

Last year I made the mistake of promising my 4 year old son that I’d take him to Lowes after work to buy some Halloween decorations. This was October 7th. There was nothing but Christmas decorations

Must be the same gourmet chefs who advise Aldi's to treat shortening as a seasonal (winter) item.

I mean not really though. I have two big properties and I usually stop cutting in early November and start up again in like March.

I mean hell we spend most of January this year in a deep freeze

You can put Dillards in that category. Normally they have summer clothes discounted heavily by the end of July.

Costco stops selling cheese pizzas here on the first Friday of Lent. That’s the set cutoff day for their cheese pizzas. Only pepperoni made to bake until the Fall
