Yes, genius, people were buying houses at 16% mortgage rates while making $3 an hour. Did you read that on HuffPost?
You know boomers were buying houses in the late 60s and 70s too, right? Why are you cherry picking one factor of the toughest years of the 80s while ignoring the most important factor, median home price-to-income ratio? Interest rates peaked in the 80s but home price to income ratio was even lower then than it was in the 70s and most of the 60s. The highest it got in the 80s was 4.0. It's 5.5 now.
Add that to the college issue which you ignored... you're WAAAAY more likely to need an advanced degree today. And colleges are 155% more expensive (inflation adjusted) than they were.

So many angles one could take but I often think about how it must have been to get drafted and the fear it cascaded into society. GenX never felt that extreme anxiousness and fear.
The establishment at the time seemed so rigid and at times evil. The boomers tried to fight back and it’s still continuing in younger generations that came later.

The cost of money and prices were correlate in the 80s, today, rates are rising and still so are prices, which means total cost of ownership has skyrocketed.
They somehow cannot understand this extremely simple concept

I don't think it's fair to blame "boomers" in general, it's a combination of things. "Boomers" in conservatives areas are conservative. "Boomers" in liberal areas are liberal.
The population shift from rural communities to urban and suburban metro areas is to blame, honestly. And the transient nature of people since the 1950s certainly changed communities dramatically.
Misplaced trust seems to be a big one. They grew up being told to trust the government and the evening news. They kept voting for politicians and for short-term satisfaction while the debt piled up. It's hard to believe some of the same fricking politicians people voted for 6 decades ago are still in office.
In closing, it's politicians.

You act like a 75 year old farmer in South Georgia votes the same as a 75 year old union worker in Pittsburgh?

Your generation voted them in.

In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Baby Boomers (born 1946–1964, ages 60–78) and Millennials (born 1981–1996, ages 28–43) showed distinct voting patterns. Boomers were nearly evenly split, with a slight edge for Kamala Harris (50% vs. 49% for Donald Trump), while Millennials leaned slightly toward Harris (51% vs. 47% for Trump), a closer margin than in 2020. - **Baby Boomers**: Approx. 40 million voted (based on 65% turnout of 62 million boomers). Estimated votes: 20 million for Harris, 19.6 million for Trump. - **Millennials**: Approx. 32 million voted (based on 50% turnout of 64 million Millennials). Estimated votes: 16.3 million for Harris, 15 million for Trump. Data reflects AP VoteCast and exit polls, with Boomers shifting slightly left and Millennials trending right compared to 2020.
