Bookstore customer service is terrible; B&N doesn't price match their own website

I went a local Barnes and Noble since it is really the only place that has an extensive selection of print magazines. It turns out that the cashiers also double as bookfinders so while I was in line all the cashiers left the front to go find books for people who needed help.
I also learned that B&N has completely different prices between their stores and website, and they don't honor their website prices in the store. But I believe you can buy off the website with the website price and do in-store pickup within an hour of ordering. How does this make any sense?
I know Amazon is kicking their arse, but they don't need to give us any more self-inflicted reasons to abandon these brick & mortar locations.

Everyone knows B&N only exists as a place to loiter and drink coffee while wasting time before your movie starts.
