The Old Man and The Sea
The theme of the book is pretty shallow and cliche as well-
quote:
“But man is not made for defeat," he said. "A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
That line is the book basically. No complex relationships or deep insights into the heart of man.
The ONLY redeeming quality of the book is how the giant swordfish being caught on the hook (and unable to get away) is a nice parallel to the old man unable to escape from aging and death. Both the swordfish and the man are being controlled and constrained by forces beyond their control.

Is this the one about Andrew Jackson ? Good book but very ponderous and hard to read. It will take you a while to finish.
I like Shockwave (story of atomic bomb from test to Hiroshima) . Very compelling story.
