Any recent injury? Once you get to 40, aches and pains happen. Avoid surgery at all costs.

No injuries, I think it's from years of lifting weights. I appreciate the input.

It's not for everyone, but I find an inversion table helps me stretch and decompress nerves in both my back and neck. Again, not recommended by most medical professionals due to increased blood pressure in head, etc. The older you are the riskier it is. But, it has relieved me of tremendous pain.

I work and surgery and see a lot of back surgeries. As mentioned above, they won’t operate till you have numbness, tingling of persistent pain not relieved by PT. If you were to go to surgery for your current problem, it would be the most minor of back surgeries. It’s when you start getting into lower back fusions that you better have someone that knows what they’re doing.

Both times I’ve been totally relieved of pain from extensive PT. FWIW I had surgery on my neck in 1999 for a ruptured disc. Don’t know but maybe the bone spurs were a result of that surgery. Either that or just old age ha.

My cousin had what you’re describing and it made his dick fall off.

"Bone spurs" in the spine can mean many things. They can be in an area where they will not irritate anything. They can be in an area where they cause damage to the disc, they can be in an area where they irritate the nerve root.

My neck and back have been very sore lately. Doc took x-rays and it shows bone spurs on my spine. I have a follow up appt with him this Wednesday. Anyone ever dealt with something like this? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pretty scared right now.

I'm 39 years old.

By any chance, have you been checked for Herpes? Bone spurs are widely known to be caused by both HSV 1 and 2. Chances could be that your bone spurs are cause by that time you nailed Candy in the champagne room. Secret’s safe with me.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the herp, but I'll make sure to ask my doc about this theory

No need to be scared...doctors will try pretty much everything before they agree to do surgery. Even then, all they will do is make a very small cut to scrape the spur down...not much to it at all.

basically, you have the final say on when and if they do anything at all to you. Unless the spurs get into a nerve or something like that, you won't ever be close to surgery.

Do you have bone spurs or Ankylosing Spondylitis?

I have AS and it can look like bone spurs on an X-ray as the spine fuses.

It’s not the end of the world. I just try to remember to stick my dick out. Keeps me from slouching.

If it is AS. Take the biomeds and Turmeric and Alleve.

Helps a lot.

Good luck.

I had 2 spots in my neck that were pinching nerves causing shoulder pain and numbness in my right hand. I was waking up in such pain, and for the longest time I thought I was just sleeping in awkward positions or my pillows sucked.
I used a surgeon in Dallas who cleaned up those spots and fused 3 of my vertebrae. The aftermath and soreness sucked for a solid 4-5 months but the pressure off my hand and shoulder now feel great. I am glad I did the surgery but I underestimated the full recovery. Since I had physical obstructions pinching nerves, I figured surgery was inevitable and just got it done. I'm not sure any amount of PT can heal bone spurs but maybe I'm wrong.
I'm also pretty close to your age, 38.
