don't know about the max, but newer gen airliners are way past stick pushers, and obviously the fly by wire jets don't use that technology either

I believe that is incorrect. In manual flight, if the AoA sensor detects a nose too high stall, the computer will trim the elevators without pilot input causing the nose down pitch.
This is actually the concern of what happened to this flight. The pilots can over power the automatic elevator trim but it will repeat the trim every 10 seconds. The pilots must understand what is happening though.

correct, and again, not familiar with the max, but using airbus as an example, the solution is to take the computers out of the equation to give you an old fashioned airplane to fly

Why the pilots didn’t disengage the autopilot is beyond me. Or at least they did it too late.

I’d be curious to see the positioning of the flight director. Plane senses stall due to false high AoA reading so nose dives to compensate for airspeed?

I recall something like that as well with a couple of earlier gen 737's. Something about while descending and coming close to final approach and a little jet wash from planes in front of them caused them to get stuck and crash....I think 2 of them crashed and the FAA couldn't figure it out and a 3rd one the pilot recovered and they identified the problem.

could have been an undue activation of protection by the flight control computer(s) due to erroneous interpretation of AoA position

I remember watching that air emergency (I think that’s the show name?) then having to get on a 737 the next day

I want to say that those were in Colorado Springs and Pittsburgh and the crashes weren't very far apart?

yes, another in LaGuardia, on takeoff, same thing , rudder issues, Feds try to blame it on everything but the PCUs, but that's when they started fixing them

Link below is a great video of a similar event and how pilots should react. Video shows a simulator of a runaway stabilizer which is similar to the recommended stabilizer issue being discussed.
The two pilots should have noticed the trim wheels spinning as the plane was trying to prevent what it thought was a stall. I am convinced that this plane did not crash simply due to the AoA false reading and subsequent nose down pitch.
