Sadly, yes. And Were I standing there in the same exact spot at the same exact time under the same exact circumstances, I'd have put her down as well.
She was only a few feet away coming towards him with a deadly weapon. Do you realize how short of a time he had to react? We're talking a matter of just a couple more seconds and she could have been on him. In those couple seconds he had a life or death choice to make, and not just her life or death, but also his own.
What would you have done had you been there at that moment and it was you she was coming toward?

Like I said before she was old as dirt he had multiple options that didn't include taking her life.... Taser, mace, heck run away till she runs outta breath, or maybe just shoot her once then maybe she has a chance to survive but shooting her 4 times in the chest..... That's like a fricking mafia hit

I love all the heroes in these threads who would wade in and fight the armed perps rather than shoot them. It takes exactly one frick-up in that type of fight and you don't go home that night.

Cops are taught to shoot until the threat is neutralized. No shoot her once and see how that works out.

None of them have been in a serious fight with an armed opponent. That is as visceral, evolutionarily-grounded, kill or be killed situation as there is. Not only that, none of them have been trained for it or even seriously considered what would happen. So, they will rely purely on instinct when it happens.
Cops don't have the choice to run away. I'm hard on cops. They kill too many dogs. Many of them are untrained/poorly trained in identifying the signs of imminent violence. Many of them need work on the personal interaction skills.
BUT, if a cop shoots a person who is likely mentally unstable, messed up on drugs/alcohol or some combination, and presents a clear risk of danger to the police or other citizens? I'm going to back that shooting 99 times out of 100. The evidence will have to be overwhelming for me to flip the other way and back the Darwin awardee.
