No one uses hydraulic steering anymore so kiss that goodbye.
If you're going to be "the ultimate driving machine" then you'd damn well better figure out how to replicate legendary steering feel with your electric rack. BMW has not done so because it's not that important to them anymore.
Not even gonna mention the non-luxurious stop/start system.

You can disable to start/stop so that isn't a valid complaint. It is simply an option.

Nice! The e38 has long been one of my favorite large luxury saloons from an aesthetic standpoint. The 750iL in Tomorrow Never Dies is what is what got me into bimmers.

luxury cars are for idiots. Ill stick to buying Fords and other AMERICAN vehicles.

Had an 07 335i. Great car with twin turbo 300 hp. Not so great when out of warranty and repairs are needed. Needless to say I got rid of it when repairs were beginning to pile up.

Great vehicle. The new ones are not my favorite generation, but they look very great and I'd certainly drive one. BMW just came out with their new 7 series, and IMO it looks very good.
I've heard this as well about newer BMW products. Supposedly the new Cadillac ATS produces better driving dynamics than the new 3 series.
I'll probably consider a 3 series, A4, or ATS for my next car. Unfortunately since I travel it will really end up being my wife's car, which means it will have a slush box, 4 doors, and a bunch of fancy options. I just have to wait for the Accord to wear out, which will probably take forever.

Had a girlfriend who had a 650 convertible. Damn that thing was fun to drive.

I respect the old school 3 series. But the newer models are filled with uppity females who think they are important. But really they aren't jackshit

Yes it was the high water mark for the 5 series. Currently I have a e46 m3 and never plan on selling it. Just did a 90k service. It was a bunch of money, but nothing else is like it.
I understand the stereotypes about BMW and high end cars, but if you truly enjoy driving they are superior.
