Probably have better view of them practicing a day or a couple of days ahead of the show. I don't know that I have ever been within 10 miles of the Naval Station for more than a few hours and did not see them practicing. I am sure I have but it is very common....they have to practice a lot to do what they do and you know they love doing it so it is probably pretty easy to convince them to practice as often as possible. I suspect though that if you go to the show despite the crowds and the mayhem involved your boys will have one of the best experiences of their lives and will remember it forever...it is a special thing to witness in person.

As someone suggested, see the Blue Angel Practice FB page and catch the practice on base by the museum.
You have to get there a bit early (say an hour) as there is a parking limit. Great view as you are essentially at center of the show. You can rent chairs from the museum or bring your own.
Did this yesterday. Legit.

this, I've flown fighters and other jets but there is not a time that I see them perform that doesn't give me goose bumps, an erection

If you decide to go, do it on Friday. Traffic isn't as bad and its the same show in the same location as the Saturday show.

It is worth the time, for sure.
If you can, call ahead and try to reserve a spot in the old lighthouse. They literally wave to you as they go by.

Just an FYI
In November at the homecoming airbase show the Thunderbirds are flying along with the Blue Angels. This is a great show and a rare experience

Saw their practice session back in 2016 at their home field. It was pretty cool.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
The Blue Angels are definitely worth it. Those boys will never forget it.

I'll be in Destin that weekend. Seeing if it's feasible or worth the trouble to drive 1.5 hours and get a spot on the beach or somewhere else to watch? I've never been and would like to bring my 2 young sons with me. I'm just worried we'll get there and not get a good viewing because of the crowds. Thanks for any feedback.
If you plan on Pensacola Island, get there at 5a and expect to be there very late. Over a million people will be on Island.
Find a place near bay OR wait till Nov Show @ base

Get there early like 7:00 am early. Spots on beach and parking fill up fast. Also going to be awhile leaving. Obviously need to bring a canopy, chairs, food, drink etc plus think about bathroom needs. It’s an incredible show watching on the beach but it’s a logistical challenge.
I know people post Covid who’ve gotten there at 7 for the July show and couldn’t find a decent spot.
The truth is with the heat and the attendance levels unless you have access to a boat to watch from the water or a house/condo, the practices are 100% the way to go IMO.

I started following a Facebook page that list all the practice times/show times/etc. and they posted yesterday that last year the big parking lot near the pier was full/closed at 4:37am in 2023.
Our check-out day is that Saturday and we were considering sticking around for the day before leaving to come home but given the reports of how crowded it'll be and traffic I think we're just going to get out of town ASAP.

The practice for the show isn't at NAS. It's at PNS beach

Local here that lives in Gulf Breeze and watches the Blues practice every week. Have seen them hundreds of times and still sprint across the house to catch a glimpse of them flying when I hear roar outside.
For the July beach show, the Angels will begin setup and spotting/marker practice on Wednesday morning at 8am and fly for a few hours. It's called Breakfast with the Blues. They will not fly all of their formations/maneuvers on Wednesday, but still cool to see them all over the sky.
Thursday, the Blues will fly their full performance over the beach. Friday is the full airshow practice with all acts performing. Saturday is the same as Friday, but the "official" airshow with much larger crowds. People start arriving on the island as early as 5am and it is a nightmare to get out. 3+ hours is not unheard of.
If you want the full airshow experience without as much of a crowd, come on Friday. If you just want to see the Blues fly their show, Thursday is perfect with even smaller crowds than Friday.
November show this year will be incredible with the Blues and the Thunderbirds performing. Hope this helps.

I'd honestly shoot for a mid-week practice (on the beach). With 2 young kids, they'll enjoy seeing the planes and their maneuvers, no need to deal with the full show and dress rehearsal on Friday and the crowds that come with it. I live here and don't even bother going out there on Fri/Sat unless I'm staying out there.

Always worth it. Watch them every chance I can. One of the fortunate things when I was in, every duty station we were they came to. However, when we were stationed at Pensacola, I'd go watch them practice when I could.

Doesn't matter, they practice several days a week there. Used to watch them when I could when we were stationed there. Right behind the museum.

Go on the 11th or 12th for the practices. Get there by 9am and hangout there for the day. Traffic is wild. Don't even try for the 13th.
