The dude possibly has a point regarding the cop initiating the incident by following him for reasons we're not certain of.
The dude isn't going to make for the best person to support here based on his actions once the confrontation began. That's on him.

So we give this cop a pass because he was harassing some guy who didn't follow his orders? This isn't a police state, they shouldn't be allowed to talk to people like that and then bitch and moan because nobody respects them.
What did the officer say that you are talking about?
The officer made a traffic stop for what you call a petty violation and the pedestrian is the one who escalated the situation. Do you think a person should be able to ignore orders during a legal detention?

There is this huge conformation bias when it comes to police. People think cops are owed some kind of respect because they have a noble job or because they think it is dangerous. You know what police are NOT required to do? Protect your dumb arse. If you're getting your arse kicked they don't have to do shite to help you. Laws are written into place specifically to exempt police from certain things while they are off duty. Think about that for a minute.
You are just going off on a personal tirade here. What are you talking about and how is it relevant to the topic at hand?

The cop did not make a traffic stop he followed the guy and found a reason to harass him.

He was wearing a marked uniform and identified the nature of the stop to the guy filming. But continue with your own personal bias and hate towards law enforcement.

I'm not pro-law enforcement by any stretch of the imagination, but I agree with you.
Whether or the not the cop is a dick head isn't the question.
The question is if it was legal.
He stopped a person (who is filming the cop and j walking) and the guy reacted poorly.
Also, why is he carrying weed if he's just having a morning coffee? What a dummy.
I've been arrested several times and I have countless speeding tickets.
I have NEVER had an issue with a cop when I wasn't fricking up.
I know that racism and over bearing police are problems, but this isn't the video to use to argue for those causes.

It's easy to see a person like you that doesn't have the mental capacity to understand that someone can be critical of an entity but not be driven by hatred and call you the names that you undoubtedly deserve. I won't though. I genuinely want them to do the job that they are hired for and that is to keep the peace not harass the he'll out of anyone that looks funny or looks at them funny

frick the police, I think they are all scumbags. What do you think about that?
Now that we got that out of the way, do you think he was protecting the public by pinching this guy for crossing without a signal? Or do you think by following him around he go intimidated and slipped up?
My money is on the latter.

Well, Mr. Harrell was obviously guilty of walking while being black.

He probably forgot he had the weed, until it was too late.

Could you imagine living in a world where having weed in your pocket was legal? It's crazy to think about the horrors we would face on a day to day basis. I bet you couldn't even walk down the street without someone offering you or your family a free hit to try and get your hooked. Mass shootings, AIDS breakouts from people sharing marijuana needles, white woman running away with black men. It would be crazy. I don't think I want to live in a world where I'm not protected from marijuanas by the boys in blue. Thank goodness they are cracking down on these junkies.

A lot of assumptions are being made as usual with these types of threads.
Many don't agree with what are described as petty traffic violations and many think that weed should be illegal.
So if any officer detains someone for one of these so called "petty" traffic violations and subsequently arrests the person for weed it has to be harassment (sarcasm gif). It couldn't actually be that the officer was doing his job. The same people will give zero blame to the person who actually escalated the situation.

It would be one thing if the officer wrote the guy a jaywalking ticket. It's a different thing when they use the jaywalking as an excuse to shake the guy down for other shite.

Did you even watch the video? You actually think the officer escalated that situation? We aren't talking about an officer arresting someone that is being compliant.

Please go on and elaborate. Are you telling me that it isn't the duty of a police officer to initiate a stop on someone if he has probable cause that they are breaking a law?

That's ridiculous. I hope a cop never shakes you down and treats you like shite.
First of all, your second thought has nothing to do with your first here. You are suggesting it is ridiculous that it is the job of a cop to initiate a stop on someone if probably cause exists. It's actually not ridiculous at all. In reality, it's the fundamental job of being a police officer. That's really not subject for debate so that you find it "ridiculous" is pretty dumbfounding.

This has nothing to do with the video or discussion at hand.

Well you certainly have a way of drawing up your own premise and assuming everyone agrees with it. And the question is not one of "respect," but rather noncompliance. It seems you are incapable of setting aside your personal narrative and having an objective discussion about this subject.

We are always told to look for suspicious people regarding terrorist and this is no different than a cop using his instincts observing someone who appears to be slightly nervous or paranoid. When you get pulled over for a traffic violation cops observe whether you are nervous or suspicious which they then will ask to search your vehicle. Sometimes you just have to trust your instincts. He can't prove this was racial but would have had a better case if he had not j-walked and carried weed. What a DA.

Typical bullshite . You are hiding behind probable cause and you're an a-hole for doing it. Cops are paid to keep the peace not search everyone that looks at them funny.
Posted on 3/7/16 at 2:16 pm to Street Hawk
Personally, a police officer already has my respect before any stop, confrontation, conversation, etc. My father raised me to respect them (not agree with them) at all costs. This line of thinking has proved quite beneficial to me. I'm not "licking boots." I'm offering my respect to a man/woman who has devoted their life to protecting mine.
Now, I'm not a Minority. Perhaps my view would be different if I were. But I can guarantee you that there are no negative consequences to being respectful and cooperative to a police officer.

No, you are hiding behind the notion that the stop was unjustified to begin with, which of course none of us can know, and by excusing the pedestrian for his behavior whether the stop was within legality or otherwise.
The only "bullshite" here was your suggestion that it isn't the duty of police officers to initiate contact with persons when probable cause is present.
