Just wait. As much as this board gets triggered about cyclists on the road. Wait till the scooters really invade Baton Rouge.
I'm calling it, Scooter threads will be the OT trigger threads of 2019.
These scooter companies are like locust. Baton Rouge roads will be lined with thousands of them in short order. Im not really for or against them, but if you hate bikes on the roads wait until the scooters get going.

Someone will figure a way to disable the GPS or rip it off.

You get $5 per scooter that you pickup & charge.

Sure but wont stay there. People will use them like cars.
There are plenty of laws against them being used the way they have been, but being overlooked here in dallas cause our mayor is a sjw cuck.
The companies know there are long established laws in every US city, so why they just took the approach of dumping them on the cities. Getting people hooked, and govt is to slow to do anything about it. They tested it with the bikes, and then scooters. Genius.

It probably has more to do with it getting cars off the road in an already congested city and being a good idea. But your conspiracy theory is more fun so let's go with that.

I've seen people riding those blue bikes 10+ miles away from New Orleans. They most definitely get stolen
Posted on 12/14/18 at 10:20 am to nes2010
They are pretty fun if you can get up to speed, but if you're going slow, they are not really stable at all. Also idiots, especiallky tourists, keep riding them on busy city sidewalks or in the middle of the road.
Being the US, there will be enormous lawsuits once people start dying on them, which is inevtiable.

More then just marketing, but definitely took this approach.
I deal with a similar approach all day long at work. it's been around a long time, but seen it gradually increase more over the last few yrs. Like with more intent not fooling anyone with the "I didnt know we couldnt do that" kind of thing. Unfortunately they hook customers, and harder to fight. Luckily I saw it happening, studied it, and started putting processes/policies in place. Unfortunately not easy to manage, and constant vigilance. Why all this facebook data sharing type stuff isnt as easy as many think. it's not just an IT security thing, and thats all people focus on.

Sometimes it’s best to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

Used to see the same thing in downtown New Orleans 15 years ago when the Segway first came out.

Every rider is breaking the terms of use by not wearing a helmet, the only lawsuits that people could possibly win (and I don't see it happening) is suing municipalities if they get injured from bad roads

That is where the problem lies. It is a "motorized" vehicle so it is supposed to be ridden on the street & w/ a helmet which no one wears. However due to traffic & fear of safety w/ cars hitting you probably 90% of the people ride them on the sidewalk. Of course by riding on the sidewalk you run into issues w/ zooming around pedestrians that can't hear you b/c most people are wearing earphones & being electric you can't hear them coming or can't hear the driver telling you they are coming by.
They go 15MPH which is pretty fast going downhill in a hilly city & dangerous w/ bumps & cracks in the sidewalks & the brakes are very sensitive so you can fall with a quick stop. Emergency room visits have increased significantly since the rollout of these scooters. The weight limit is supposed to be around 200 lbs or it will go slower. If you are at or above that weight good luck trying to make it up a hill. You will have to push w/ one of your legs to make it to the top of the hill.

Just grab the handlebars when they're moving, and the riders will go flying off. Scooter problem solved

Happened at 4am
Imagine driving along at 4am and some kid on a scooter comes out of no where.

They're awful. On my run yesterday I had to throw one out of a sidewalk handicapped ramp. Emory kids leave them everywhere.
If I were a cop I would start ticketing people for littering etc

Yes, the Lime scooters are faster than the Bird scooter.
