Oh well. Now I can enjoy my trip without feeling like I'm missing out on snow back home, which is one of my greatest fears.

I wouldn't count it out just yet. We are still 5 days away which is an eternity in weather models.

Is it looking like Tuesday will be when the bad stuff starts if it indeed does?

When LSU plays its game in Orlando it will be dry and warm due to the fire in my fireplace. Gumbo will be likely with a chance of inebriation.

Correct. If we get any ice/snow, it'll be Tuesday.

Man the differences are subtle between this dry run and the 3"+ across the area last night. Once again, the little things really matter for delivering snow. At least we know we'll have the cold in place, no warm noses to frick it up. Just need the energy to play nice.

If I was a plumber I could pay for my new boat out of next week's work.

I was 8 years old but have seen a lot of pictures people took standing at the old St Francisville ferry landing

Saw this and was working. It was blocking suction screens were I worked. Seen ice cubes that would crush a car very easy. That is right across the river from you.

Stealing the idea from Zach Fradella posting at Medic's site, but I think this will paint the picture well.

Top is today's Euro, bottom is last night.

Today's you can see the little trough a bit farther east and you can see a nice dry slot blowing over us coming from the bone dry NW.

Last night's on the bottom is a little farther west and a bit south, the NW is cut off and we get it from the W to SW. That blows over the gulf and provides moisture to work with.

That's the difference between a few inches of snow and nothing. So far away, developing a little piece of energy, uncertainty still abounds.

This is really fun to follow. So I'm guessing by Saturday we should have a good idea about a more solid forecast?

The 18z GFS was a count hair away from delivering. No need for fantasy land, we're close enough for next week.

It ran out a lot like the 12z Euro.

Shortwave drops in riding the front range and cuts a little east. Basically delivers that dry NW flow and kills the snow chances here. A little farther west and we'd be in business as we'd get a more W flow in that would collect a little moisture off the gulf and not get dried out by the the NW flow.

It's always a fine line and this is no different. I'd obviously not bank on snow, but it's definitely close enough to be interesting.
