Hope all that shite stays north.

The new Canadian keeps our temps in the mid 20's with sleet and snow just about all day long on 1/2/18.

Think this was exposed as a myth earlier in the thread.

Someone posted some studies from entomologist, also used Alaska as an example, which has tons of mosquitoes

The Canadian has gotten quite aggressive with the cold and ice. Stick it in the outlier file for now.

GFS and Euro are sitting closer together now. Not epic cold GFS was after early yesterday but quite cold for here. Both might be underdoing some lows. The looks of a still, dry, clear night or two are in the cards and those can get cold very quickly. I've seen 5-7 degrees in an hour up in the mountains with that and a little snow on the ground.

Right now is the be aware time. Those in lifted homes, consider what to do about pipes. Otherwise, just get a little firewood (it's going to be chilly no matter what) and keep an eye on the model trends but more importantly your local NWS office forecast.

Dallas still looking like it will avoid the sleet apocalypse? We booked a 4 hour wine & app crawl with 2 other couples but don’t love the idea of ice skating the Tollway in a limo. Planned to reschedule it for another weekend and just hang out at our house but then the forecast said we are in the clear.

This graphic from NWS DFW office sums it up pretty well...

I don't know who said it... but I just remember in the last snow thread earlier this month someone saying there's no one who knows cold better than the Canadians

Alaskan Mosquitoes in Prudhoe Bay - average daily temperature of 10.3 degrees, with only 3 months of the year having an average low temperature higher than 32 degrees, none of which have an average low above 40.

Mosquitoes in Alaska can incapacitate a caribou due to blood loss and will kill them due to suffocation.

IIRC, didn't it snow/sleet in southern LA for Y2K?

The Canadian is bringing -37 to Iowa and central Illinois Tuesday morning. Just perusing climate records for those areas, most daily record lows are in the -25 ballpark, so -37 would shatter all-time records. I have a hard time believing it.

Edit: Canadian brings -2 to Austin Wednesday morning. Go home you're drunk, eh?

It has 2 degrees for Lafayette Tuesday morning and 7 in BR. Hard to believe that level of cold. Definitely dropped some snow and ice
