What's typical? Hi around 55, low around 35? That's a 20 degree drop on a typical day.

It’s 66 at 6 pm which is quite warm then 37 by midnight.
That’s a pretty strong front around these parts.
Think of it this way...high of 72 on 12/31 and ice forecasted for 16 hours later.
Again, all model watching.

Full GFS rum is now out. It shows THREE chances at ice from 1/1 to 1/6

GFS might have the right idea on the cold at NY. Euro and Canadian look a little cooler.
So now we look for a high pressure to build over the the four corners and west and get a little blocking high over the NW Atlantic and we might have some potential for some energy to sweep down this way with the cold snap and make something happen.

12z Euro dropped a really really cold forecast out around New Year's Day. Like 9 in Atlanta on NYE cold. The entire eastern part of the country gets frigid on this run.

It'll probably moderate because that was ridiculous but I saw a strong signal for a cold start to our new year.

This thread started with the hope of wintery precipitation tonight. No moisture anywhere close to us but man it is freezing up north. Places in TN not getting above freezing. North Dakota not getting above 0! It doesn’t seem like it will get over 60 here in the next 10 days, which is rare in itself.

Just stop please. For one this kind of weather down here is a disaster
