Freezing temps for highs 1/1/18-1/2/18 and just above freezing 1/3/18. Ice storm at that time as well. SELA.

Yep, 1/2 is a mess, but we’re back in fantasy land again.

If by "freezing temps for highs" you mean highs in the 50's and 60's I agree with you.

maybe I'm reading this wrong but...

it seems like an arctic blast is coming... it's just getting the timing right

At first the models showed it was coming around the 24th with wintery precipitation and there was hints of something after around New Years.

As the 24th gets closer it turned into just a normal cold front.

I’m betting whatever they are seeing happening around New Years will flip flop a bunch between now and then and eventually be just another cold front behind the first

So that wonderful White Christmas forecast a few days ago is officially dead?

My weather app says a high of 50 on Christmas. I don't mind the mild temperatures, but I was looking forward to actually meeting Frosty.

Judging from the 06z GFS I would unequivocally say yes.

Nothing but rain.

Yea, no more potential at all for snow, sleet, or even freezing rain on Christmas. Even the massive ice storm that was going to dump 2 feet of sleet on most of Texas is gone.

GFS is still hinting at a very cold start to the new year but that's so far out that I have zero confidence in that right now. We'll just have to wait and see.

For now, highs in the 40s on Christmas Day with a morning temp of near freezing. Should be a beautiful day.

The mountains in Colorado need more snow and the plains need more of a snowpack before those really deep cold fronts will actually filter down to the deep south.

This next week might serve to change some of that for Colorado at least.

Should be looking at 2-5" for the ski resorts near the divide tomorrow. Won't be as helpful for Aspen or Vail as it stands currently, winds coming out of the south and east aren't the bounty a NW flow would be.

Ought to be good for Breckenridge and all the resorts east of the divide.

Another shot of snow and some deep cold following into the weekend. Sets the stage for some deep south cold later on into next month maybe, but is really needed for the ski resorts in Colorado now. It's been a tremendously light snowfall for central Colorado this winter.
