Right now looking at the CMC / GFS , I can expect either cold rain, sleet, ice, or snow.

I hate weather

Trying to not panic and tell people what I’ve seen.

Then again don’t want a house full of relatives because they weren’t prepared.

Milk, bread, alcohol and firewood will be a hot commodity.

The Euro is caving to the GFS, shows an absolutely historic winter storm for much of TX over Christmas.

Now I have to start taking the chances much more seriously. Maybe LA will luck out and the southeast ridge will spare us from the ice. Winter weather is exciting down here but no one wants an ice storm like that.

Yeah that would be one hell of an event if that were to verify. I just want it cold, snow is fine, but a massive ice storm at Christmas would be nasty.

Nevermind. Just saw it. It looks bad for Texas and north Louisiana. Just a cold rain for us here in south Louisiana. Highs in the upper 40's to low 50's on Christmas Day.

This certainly has my attention now since the Euro is jumping all over this now, too. It's also far enough out there that there's still a LOT of uncertainty in the timing and location of the frozen mess. South Louisiana is still in the mix, in my opinion. Have to watch this.

Yep. And the cold air very slowly filters into LA. Still a long way away though.

Too early to know for sure. The GFS keeps going back and forth. Major ice storm for LA (including Baton Rouge) this morning (6z) but then backed off to just a cold and slightly rainy day on the 12z run. I think SELA would be on the very edges of any winter weather, the ridge is going to poke it's head. How much cold can slip under is the key and then, of course, does the precip come this way or ride up further north going from west Texas up through Dallas and on out that way.

As of right now just cold rain for SELA. That can certainly change since we're so far out. Just keep an eye on it for now. If by next week at this time it shows freezing rain for SELA, get your firewood ready because it would probably happen.

Well don't get excited in SELA, thinking we won't see any frozen mess. The ridge is only going to stick the tip into us, so it could still allow that cold to penetrate us, leaving us quite slippery.

That's fine. And I'll be honest I'm still spent after last week's affair.

Considering that the newest Euro only extends to 10 day (240 hrs), its quite possible the next frames would identify a frozen mess in SELA as the 6z GFS did between the 252-288 hr intervals. Tomorrow's Euro runs should start bringing that frame into focus
