If people understood that flashing yellow wasn't a GD stop sign, it would be that big of a problem.

You can thank the BTR media for that. Every time a storm comes they tell citizens that is how they are supposed to handle them. State law clearly says to proceed with caution at a flashing yellow though.

All right hand turns at all intersections is the solution. Then we have 0 conflict points. Win for everyone!

Interesting points. Definitely makes me understand everything a lot better. I think it will most likely all depend on br drivers and whether or not they can get their act together. I think once they open Parker to Nicholson everything will flow much more nicely too.
And at this point, it still sucks for me and the other people living on E. Boyd.

Which is why most areas that are in a grid format are one way streets.

It sucks for the people living in the 4400 block of Burbank as well due to the clusterfrick of people that will be turning left at Parker and others turning right at Lee.

I haven't been to that intersection in over a week.
After I started reading posts, I realized it has been changed.

you really should take a deep breath and not let a simple intersection change ruin your life.

They might as well block off E. Boyd at both ends and make it a walking street (kinda like LSU's walking campus)
DOTD has screwed the pooch on this one!

Also that "gold" route you put up to get to CEBA is retarded. How long have you been going to LSU? Or are you just a woman?
Dead serious.

I seriously don't know what is so complicated about taking a right out of her complex then a right on Nicholson and a right onto Nicholson Ext.
It's one light she's going through now instead of 2 and is marginally longer and has no left turns.

when in rome is a she? explains everything. i just love how she routes herself to nicholson, then back to burbank. which is fine. then she straight up skips right on past gourrier when wanting to get to CEBA.

oh and to answer this, nothing at all. it's not at all complicated.
eta: i just google map timed the two routes and they're the same time (her old route and her "gold" route).
depending on the morning and catching a light or not one may be marginally faster than the other. it could vary from day to day. just hilarious she's losing her mind over a commute that really is no different for her.

You're right, which is why I will be doing that (or just walking to class) from now on. Btw, getting to school wasn't my only concern addressed in the thread. Maybe I harped on it a bit too much
I just know how shitty traffic is in that area during school, and I'm nervous about how all of the students will handle it at once.
But I have learned a lot due to this thread, so I am still glad we discussed every possibility

Most grid areas with one way streets usually have several streets that are two ways that cut through so that you are not stuck hitting every stop sign or having to take 50 turns to get somewhere. E. Boyd was that street (however undersized and poorly planned it was). It was a bit annoying that it didn't cross over directly to Stanford/LSU Ave.. Every other street in the area going in that direction either cuts off before it gets to Nicholson or does not make it back to Highland. We've now limited even further the option to cross from Highland to Nicholson. I know the reason they did the West Parker light was to eventually do this to relieve East Boyd pressure and the accidents it caused. I just don't think the solution was to make that intersection useless to the point that people had to go out of their way to not use it. We've basically reduced the intersection's efficiency so that people stay away all because it had a lot of accidents instead of fixing the intersection.

The sad thing was, as bad as that intersection was, all they needed was to change the light cycle and/or add turn signals and that intersection would have fixed itself. However, DOTD decided to do what they do best, take a bad situation and make it exponentially worse for no reason. I swear, it's like no one at DOTD has ever driven a car!

How would you add turn signals right there?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 8:16 am to boom roasted
I say just cycle the damn lights and do the same at brightside and Nicholson.
Posted on 7/10/14 at 8:17 am to boom roasted
There are already turn lanes on Burbank for Boyd. Just add a light with turn signals there and have a light sequence as follows:
Left turn for Burbank both ways onto Boyd
Straight or green yield for turning both directions for Burbank
Green for turning or straight for Boyd heading East
Green for turning or straight for Boyd heading West
And the problem is FIXED.
You don't even have to do turn signals. You could just do the same thing for Burbank as I suggested for Boyd. It's so F&@KING SIMPLE and cheap, but DOTD is too incompetent to do it.
