I think at least the last 2 were “rescue” cats from sanctuaries.

I’m pretty sure Roscoe was.

That is correct. he came from big cats of indiana. they are a rescue for big cats that were obtained from private owners through multiple means. LSU does not pay for any of their tigers in order to not support illegal breeding of these animals and they are donated to the university. This is the practice that's been going on for the last several mikes.

Part of the education centered around the mike's is that there are a large number of these animals in private collections and that its a practice that needs to stop. They are too often put into poor living conditions.

It staved off extinction. Let's reproduce fewer and get them further along that list.

IIRC, if it weren't for private ownership the species would be even more endangered.

Yep, there’s more in private hands in the US than in the wild.

Not saying that they’re all in good hands, but anyone arguing that this can’t affect Mike had better do a damned thorough job of reading through the law - it only takes one judge to “interpret” some vague part of the law a particular way and Mike’s wrapped up in expensive legal issues. If the costs of those proceedings outweigh the will of the university, then Mike will be gone.

THIS is for sure is the first thing congress should have on their agenda, since we have nothing more important going on in America.

Glad they on top of things! I sleep better at night knowing our “leaders” are so committed to the people.

A bit overly dramatic don’t you think? The enclosure for the cat wasn’t the most ostentatious, but it’s not like he was being force fed exhaust.
