question here as I was too young to pay attention. did the previous "assault weapon ban" get reviewed by the supreme court?
Certainly there were legal challenges to that law. I can't remember if any of them made it all the way to the Supreme Court, but none of them succeeded.
This was all prior to the Heller case, though, so there wasn't as much case law around the 2nd Amendment.

Federal gun control DOES focus on intercity violence.
Stiffen penalties for felons in possession of a stolen firearm or firearm related crimes. Surely that's common sense legislation right? No, we'll continue to focus on the tools used to commit these crimes rather than the people doing it.

2. Openly assess the the mental health issues within our country.
mmmmmbeeer strongly agrees with both of these, Scruffy, especially the latter. People are definitely talking more about mental health these days, which is a very good thing. I happen to think that keeping weapons away, even temporarily, from those who are found to be very mentally disturbed, are in a psychotic episode, or regularly make violent threats, should not have a gun in their homes.
mmmmmbeeer isn't sure that's some canyon-esque gap between your position and his. It takes compromise to make the best policies. There's something in the middle and we need legislators who can find it.

the sad thing is that it will probably work. (taking guns from law abiding citizens, not the criminals. we screwed. it wont reduce gun violence) most gun owners have too much to lose to go through with all of their "come and take it" bravado, myself included. When faced with death, imprisonment, or heavy fines most will cave when considering the impact on wife, kids, job, etc.

The idea that we need to strip Indiana citizens of their gun rights because people in Chicago act like savages is, again, draconian
This moron is hopeless, up. It's idiots like him that will never be swayed into reality.

felons
Remember - we’re being taught that felons are victims too.
It’s not their fault they used a gun they shouldn’t have had in the first place.

sadly all of my magazines were lost in the same tragic boating accident that claimed the firearms
The tragedy haunts me to this day

The Brady Bill didn't really do anything for overall crime levels. We've already tried a lot of this crap before.

It brought down mass shootings
This is a bullshite cause-and-effect statement. Anybody who couldn’t buy any so-called assault rifle or high capacity magazine during the “ban” wasn’t looking hard.

Government doesn’t want an armed populace
Look how scared the criminal democrats are in DC right now

Compromise did happen. In the 1934 NFA. It's all been take since then.

My biggest question is just how they're going to get rid of the guns they want to ban. They'll take the cowardly way out and just say they're illegal, but every criminal with a gun won't care. You'll have people afraid to defend themselves because they don't want to go to jail for shooting a criminal trying to hurt them.

Have you looked at Colorado’s gun laws?

I edited my post. I did not mean that the executive action would reduce gun crime. I meant it would work to take guns from law abiding citizens

I actually don’t know if this is correct at all. This is quite literally the hill to die on for most gun owners I know.

"I got that done as a senator. It brought down mass shootings, we can do it again," Biden said during remarks at the White House. "We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again."
Is this the part where his VP calls him a racist again?

And '68, and '86, and God knows how many other laws on the books.
They always demand that we compromise and not themselves.

Will enough actually take a stand for it to matter, though?
