Trying to pick out some new appliances now and the more reviews you read the more confusing it is. I need to replace my dishwasher and double oven. Too many choices and options out there. Anyone have recommendations on either?
In July, my wife exploded a glass dish inside our double wall oven. It was a Frigidaire. There were glass particles embedded in the oven interior. Around first week of July, ordered an exact replacement 27", still no oven in October, delay after delay and they finally told us sometime in 2023. Cancelled the order and replaced it with 30" GE had it in less than three weeks.
Fortunately, there was enough space in the cabinetry to handle the increased width and footprint of the 30" or we might still be living out of the toaster oven.

Samsung has been really good for me!!!!! From stoves/fridges/TVs they always last and give me no issues.
Whatever you do, do not buy a Samsung refrigerator. They are dog shite. You’ll be lucky to get two years from the ice maker. By year three the motor will sound like an unmuffled weed eater. By year four, you’ll come in one day to find the temp inside the fridge is 57.

Appliances are pretty much disposable these days.

I need to get a new fridge and this thread is giving me the shakes

I think in summary;
Frigidaire refrigerator - replaced the control board, sent it out and had it rebuilt. Replaced the icemaker twice.
Samsung Washer front loader- control board went out. Thing stunk and full of mold, finally replaced with traditional top loading machine.
Samsung Dryer - control board went out, replaced the temperature sensor in the heat tube 3 times before I had enough and replaced it with Maytag.
Frigidaire oven - control board went out, sent for rebuild.
Electronics in these appliances are crap.

Speed Queen quit making the old school washers and dryers with no electronics. They make them with 3, 5, or 7 year warranties now. But they all have electronic controls. I bought washer and dryer with 7 year warranty year and a half ago. So far so good.

^This.
Doesn’t matter if you buy the “quality” brands or the cheap brands. None are going to last. The only thing you fry by paying more is extra features. However, other side of the extra features coin is now you have more stuff that will tear up and stop working in a few years.

We had Maytag washer & dryer from the time we got married in 1997 until about 2017-2029 I can’t remember what year exactly it was we replaced them. My wife was adamant she wanted Speed Queen. So far they’re doing good. Fingers crossed.

Most techs hate GE because they have factory service essentially putting independent out of GE warranty work

The lonely Maytag repairman is too busy now to do TV commercials.

My dream. "Our appliances don't have any computers or circuit boards, and they won't dispense fabric softener or ice through the door, but they are solid as hell and will last forever. When they need routine maintenance, we have the parts in stock . Now you're going to pay for that kind of quality, but if you can't afford it there's always the other guys. Solidco, the most expensive appliances you can buy, and darn well worth it."
Apologies to Curtis Mathes for ripping off their slogan.

On a positive note, bought a GE commercial grade old school top load washer and dryer from a commercial builder supply store and they’ve been great. No Wi-Fi and only a few cycles with knobs.
Don’t get a front end loader unless you like the smell of mold in your laundry room.

All the electronics are already broke on them and it’s like 1/4 the price

I have had good luck with a Frigidaire upright refrigerator only in the garage. It was at least assembled in the USA. About 5 years ago most of the major brands that were made in the USA were pretty much all the same company.
So, I get an upright freezer to match recently.
Made in China. And get this, flammable isobutane refrigerant!
Glad we are saving the ozone layer by using flammable refrigerants in our homes now.

We bought a house that came with a Frigidaire fridge and we hate it and will probably replace in the next year. The ice maker lets in warm air and melts the ice which then freezes the entire unit. It's super loud too. And the layout is awful, the shelves are "adjustable" but they really can't be configured in any other way.
We've had excellent luck with Whirlpool appliances (washer/dryer, fridges, dishwasher, microwave) so that is what we generally leans towards but I will say that the bins on our last Whirlpool fridge (bought around 2015) were awful and cracked like they were made of spun sugar. But that might be my kids, they managed to crack a drawer on the Frigidaire and we've been here like 3 months.

All new appliances are shite.
At the recommendation of this board, I bought a basic Speed Queen washer and dryer. Both run like a champ.
I also bought an extra very low end dryer for drying farm type stuff. It was a Conservator brand. It has likewise been great.
None of the stuff has much in the way of electronics. It is all the electronic stuff that causes problems.

I've heard people say this since at least the late 1980s.
That's about when electronics replaced manual operations.
