Last time I used glue traps...I found a chewed off foot. That shite ain't no myth. frickers are hardcore.
True story. Worked with this guy who had a terrible mouse problem. Guy was strange, not very clean. I imagine his house was a haven for mice and roaches. Anyhow, he’d actually ride his bike to work, and one day I noticed after he locked his bike up that he pulled some stuff out of his backpack and sat on the ground. I watched him through my window and couldn’t figure out what the hell he was doing.
I grabbed another guy in the office, and we walked out to see what he was doing. Dude had a mouse in a glue trap and was washing it with baby oil to break up the glue - so he could release the mouse outside the damned office!
My buddy said, “Man, you’re crazy, just let the little bastard die!”
Guy stood up with a look I’d never seen before or since. He said, “This little mouse didn’t do anything wrong! He was just looking for some food. I don’t want him in my house, but I’m not going to kill him for following his instinct! There are some of you I’d rather see cut off at the knees before I’d want this mouse dead!”
Scared the SHITE out of us both. Fella ended up getting canned not long after for threatening another co-worker simply because he got a promotion both had applied for.
I know, CSB, TLDR, yada yada yada

Cut off their EBT cards, and offer to send them food boxes.....
When that doesn't work, a nice snap trap with peanut butter also works.

Snap trap with peanut butter.

Sticky trap baited with peanut butter. If you saw one mouse and have droppings, you likely have an infestation. Keep trapping until you no longer catch any. Once trapped, I execute them with a pellet pistol to put them out of their misery.

I use live traps.
I'll catch the mice, then I take them and release them next to the houses of neighbors I don't like

Find out where they are getting in, but those glue traps work pretty good. Mice smell their way around so clean the area where they have been really well..
