Currently live in New Orleans. Thinking of moving to another city (Atlanta, Chicago, St Paul). What are the best resources online to compare cost of living?

When I moved back to Louisiana there was a COL calculator from McKinsey that my employer used.

Your main expenses that will change are mortgage/rent and taxes, should be easy to find that online

You forgot to add Portland and Seattle to your list. Congrats on the brain being dead.

Truth to the insurance. My buddy moved to North Carolina from Louisiana and the car insurance difference was stunning. Louisiana fricking sucks!

When you look up cities on city-data.com there is a calculator at the very bottom of the page. They have great info and forums for stuff like this.

I’m no Nola stan (my whole family is there) but Atlanta and Chicago are both downgrades from Nola. I don’t know shite about St. Paul except your dick will literally freeze and fall off in the winter

ETA: As someone else said, use a few of the ones online. I think bankrate was a good one I’ve used before

Does it stay that way or does it grow back bigger like deer antlers?

Also consider things you might overlook like utilities, gas, and groceries....i made that mistake when we moved to Long Island and my gas and electric bill average 400-550 a month.

i agree personally but you can't really compare new orleans to those big cities. it's a different ballgame.

Gotcha. Atlanta is miserable. I left. It is just sprawl. St. Paul could be a great change of scenery.

ETA

Chicago or one of the subs 2 hours away? Big difference.

3.3M people live in twin cities area, they some how manage to survive winter. The number of professional jobs I see in the area are impressive.
