Besides a wire brush. My grill is on its last leg, but I have to cook for about 20 people tomorrow, and the grill is getting harder and harder to clean. Is there a particular spray or solution that would help? Heck, any tricks that you have?

Do the grates come off? I take mine off and use my little electric pressure washer and it blasts everything off.

Line it with foil. Seriously. Throw away after. Profit.

Are the grates still solid, or are they rusted and deteriorated?

You can try oven cleaner. I have cast iron grates and the best way to clean is when they are very hot. Spray them with water and brush them off then. Steam cleans pretty well.

Is it getting harder to clean because the grate is going to fall apart if you are too rough?

Get it really hot so that it burns most everything off. Wire brush (sorry but it's needed) and then take a dish towel, roll it up, dip it in olive oil, and brush down the grill.

High heat works best for an extended period of time. Let it get as hot as it possibly can and leave it like that for an hour or so. Most of the crud will burn up and turn to ash. Think of it like a self cleaning feature on your oven.

I had to do this with my parents gas grill the other day. It hadn't been used in over two years and was nasty as all hell. I knocked off the heavy stuff and then got it up to about 600 degrees and let it sit like that for about an hour. Burned out almost all of the old grease and nastiness.

What was left easily came off the grates with a wire brush. Afterwards I re-seasoned the grates with a light coat of olive oil at about 400F for 30 minutes

Spray it with easy off (oven cleaner). THEN(NOT DURING), light it and let it get very hot. remove it while hot and clean it with them little scotch-brite green/yello scouring pad and liquid soap/comet.

This is how we cleaned oven grates at Gattis, Pizza Hut, and Papa Johns as wire brushes were not allowed. Did this once a month and unlucky driver on the day shift when the GM wanted it done was SOL.

If your grill is in sections, try and fit them in dishwasher. That will do some good as well.

Put the grates in a pan of cola for about 20 minutes.

I spray the grates with Pam, fire it up and let the heat burn it off, then hit with the brush. I'm sure you could get similar results with oven cleaner

You have to hit the grill with the fire ants while the funk is still soft. That's the quickest way and the grill will look brand new.

Go to the Home Depot. If they don't have the exact size you need, buy larger than needed replacement racks. Cut to fit with bolt cutters.
