A car over an SUV or truck for comfort, ride, and economy. Camrys are quiet and reliable.

Last year I took a job requiring travel. I have a 2018 tundra with 200K. I didn't want to use that because of the gas mileage and wear and tear so I bought an Altima to use strictly for work. It's not a great car, but it gets 37ish on the highway and to me is similar to any other sedan. It's reliable. It cost 25K brand new. It 100% gets the job done and basically pays for itself through mileage.

I'm looking at a job that would require frequent travel within a geographic region. Average annual mileage somewhere around 50k.

The OT is obviously made up of the elite among us, so I wanted to get the board's opinion of the best commuter vehicle when considering the following criteria ranked by importance:

1) Smooth, Quiet Ride
2) Reliability
3) Gas mileage
4) Space
5) Resale

You might not like this but the vehicle that will meet all of these needs is a Honda Odyssey.

You want a quiet ride at 70 mph???

Don’t buy a RAV 4 and don’t buy a Subaru Ascent or if you insist, buy some good ear plugs.

Brand new Ascent demo ride last year.
Wandered all over the lane. Steering was one deal breaker.

Engine was the other. Sounded like it was sitting in my lap.

RAV 4 engine same way. Need ear plugs with that one too.
In hills in Mo. sounded like it was going to blow up.

It is not a comfortable quiet highway vehicle.
