I start a thread bullshitting around because there were a few other "80s" threads and it's actually taken serious.

But anyone remember this?

See the commercial and the idea of a remote control toy that could go on land and water was mind blowing. I asked for one, one christmas and that thing was a total piece of shite.

Atari 2600 was making video games mainstream well before Nintendo.

Ehh, those games were so primitive and limited.

The NES allowed video games to become a legitimate art/entertainment medium instead of just a novelty.

This.

There were many, many variations of gaming consoles before the NES. They all faded to obscurity and Nintendo took nearly the entire market share until proper competitors came in.

That's because no one considers the internet as an 80's invention.

Yes I know you can point to the old 8 kb modems from the 80's, but the internet as we know it today really didn't come into existence until the early 90's.

The internet is actually a 70's invention and it was basically used by university CS departments for email and file transfers.

You're thinking of BBS's.

The internet (as a network) existed back in the 70's. The World Wide Web is what came around in the early 90's. Although WWW indeed brought the internet into the public mainstream, it is not itself the internet.
